A year later
Bucky surprised Raegan with a trip to NY, they stayed at the same hotel they did the last time he surprised her.
It was a snowy December afternoon the weekend of her birthday. They had dinner at the Ocean prime Steakhouse before they went to Rockefellar Center. They went to go ice skate as the snow fell around them.
"Hey.." he said
"Hey" she said as he pulled her closer.
"I love you." He said
She smiled at him, "I love you too." She said as she wrapped her arms around his neck.
"I fell in love with you that weekend I surprised you with our trip here, it didn't matter to me that you were with my brother. All that mattered was what we had together. I went into my senior year of high school with plans. Plans that didn't include falling in love again..until you Rae. You reopened that door. I love you Raegan Faye Connelly. And I know one other thing..my last name id yours. Will you marry me?" He said as he dropped to one knee and opened up the box.
Her mouth fell open, "oh my god, yes oh my god yes." She said as he slid the gigantic diamond on her finger.
He stood up and kissed her as he picked her up. She screamed "We are engaged!" As she wrapped her legs around his waist.
Everyone around them clapped as they skated around. When they got back to the hotel they called his parents, their friends and Eloise.
By the end of the week, their engagement announcement had made the Boston Gazette newspaper. Meryl and Fredrick had picked up the daily paper on their way out of the town to see their oldest daughter Sydney and her family in Greenwich CT. Meryl was reading it and her mouth fell open.
"Oh my god! You have to be kidding me right now!" She shrieked
"What?" Fredrick said trying to drive through a snow storm.
"Raegan Faye and that Barnes boy are engaged!" Meryl said
"What did you just say?" Fredrick said as he took his eyes off the road and saw the announcement.
They hit a patch of black ice and went sliding off the road flipping their car. All four kids got the call from the hospital. Sydney was the only one who showed up at the hospital with her husband. Meryl died from her injuries but Fredrick survived the crash. Eloise and Raegan were informed of the funeral but refused to go.
