Chapter 8

A week later, Nicole woke up to her alarm going off. She climbed out of bed and got dressed.

As she finished, she heard Blake awake on the baby monitor. She went into his room to see him standing in his crib.

"Good morning, buddy." Nicole said as she picked him up. "Let's get you ready for the day." She got him dressed and then brought him downstairs.

Bella and Charlie were downstairs, already, when Nicole walked in. "Morning." She greeted.

"Good morning, Nicole." Charlie said.

"I made scrambled eggs." Bella said.

"Thanks Bella." Nicole said as she sat Blake in a chair. She put some scrambled eggs on a plate.

"Blake, you want to try this?" Nicole asked. Blake nodded. Nicole put some scrambled eggs on a fork and gave it to Blake. He made a funny face when he tried it.

"I didn't think so." Nicole said. "I'll make you some waffles." She put some waffles in the toaster.

When they popped up, Nicole cut them up and set the plate in front of Blake, along with some milk. Nicole sat down and ate her own breakfast.

Later that afternoon, Nicole was at the library, when she got a call from her father.

"Hey Dad, what's up?" Nicole asked.

"Bella was in an accident." Charlie replied.

"What!" Nicole said. "What happened?"

"I'm not sure yet." Charlie said. "I heard a call come in saying that there was an accident at the high school and I heard Bella's name. I'm heading over to the school now."

"I'll meet you guys at the hospital." Nicole said.

"Alright." Charlie said before they both hung up. Nicole went out to her, heading to the hospital.

When she arrived, Nicole rushed into the hospital and went to where her father and Bella. "Hey, I'm here." She said.

"You called Nicole?" Bella asked.

"Are you ok?" Nicole asked.

"I'm fine." Bella said.

"What happened?" Nicole asked.

"Because of the ice, someone lost control of their car and was going hit me." Bella explained.

"You can kiss your license goodbye." Charlie said.

Nicole turned to whoever her dad was talking to and saw it was Tyler Crowley. She remembered him from when she went to school.

"I heard the Chief's daughter was here." They heard someone say.

Nicole looked to see Carlisle walk into the ER.

"Dr. Cullen." Charlie said.

"Charlie." Carlisle said. He looked down at the chart. "Isabella."

"Bella." Bella corrected.

"Well Bella. Looks like you took quite a spill." Carlisle said. "How do you feel?"

"Good." Bella said.

"Look here." Carlisle said as he shown a light in her eyes. "You might experience some post traumatic stress or disorientation. Your vital signs look good and no sign of any head trauma. I think you will be just fine."

"It would have been a whole lot worse if Edward wasn't there." Bella said. "He knocked me out of the way."

"Your boy?" Charlie asked, looking at Carlisle.

Carlisle didn't say anything and kept his eyes on the chart.

"It was amazing." Bella said. "He got to me so fast. He was nowhere near me."

"Sounds like you were very lucky." Carlisle said.

As he left, Carlisle glanced at Nicole. She noticed it and looked down to keep him from seeing her blush. She followed her sister and father into the waiting room.

"I have some papers to fill out." Charlie said to Bella. "You might want to call your Mom."

"Did you call her?" Bella asked. Charlie just shrugged. "Great. She's probably freaking out." Bella said.

"I'm going to go pick Blake up." Nicole said. "I'll see you back at the house?"

"Yeah." Bella said.

As she walked towards the entrance, Nicole was pulled into an office. She saw that it was Carlisle.

"Hi." Nicole said, smiling.

"Hi." Carlisle said. "How are you."

"Carlisle, I don't have time for this." Nicole said.

"Am I not allowed to say hi to you?" Carlisle asked.

"You can, but I don't have time to make chitchat." Nicole said. "I have to pick up Blake from daycare."

"Alright." Carlisle said. "How about we spend some time together Saturday."

"Sounds good." Nicole said.

"I'll see you then." Carlisle said, giving her a small kiss on the cheek.

Again, Nicole had to turn away to keep him from seeing her blush. "Bye." She said before walking out of the office.

A little bit later, Nicole had picked Blake up from daycare and got back to the house.

"What do you know about the Cullens?" Bella asked as the two made dinner.

"They're nice." Nicole said. "The kids were the only friends I had while I was in school."

"What's with you and Dr. Cullen?" Bella asked.

"What do you mean?" Nicole asked.

"I saw the way he looked at you walking out of the ER." Bella said. "And I notice you blush."

"We're together." Nicole replied.

"I'm sure Dad isn't thrilled about that." Bella said.

"I think he's more weirded out by it than anything." Nicole said.

"Why?" Bella asked.

"When I first met Carlisle, it was when I moved here and he was my doctor while I was pregnant with Blake." Nicole explained. "And a few months ago, he asked me out."

"I can see where Dad would be a weirded out by that." Bella said. "Are you?"

"I was a little bit at first." Nicole said. "But, I really like him."

"Well, I'm glad you're happy, Nicole." Bella said.

"Thanks Bella." Nicole said.
