Nimue's POV

"We have a stronger connection to the gods than any other group." I state, waiting for Aura to laugh at me. When she doesn't, I wave my hands a bit, indicating that I'm waiting for her to say or do something to show that she understood what I was saying.

"Well, it makes sense...." My jaw drops and I stare at her blankly as she picks at her nails. Her aloof nature was startling and there was no way she could have come to that revelation so quickly. It wouldn't make sense for her to notice it when she was so preoccupied with her attempts to polish the plan, she had developed for the ball that was now a day and a half away. Looking up at me she scoffs.

"You can't seriously think I hadn't noticed that we seem to be a bit more blessed than the rest of the soldiers at the Academy? No one else was strong enough to fight alongside us."

"We'd been training for years before they arrived though."

"Our talents don't just come from training, there had to have been some added force that was helping us along. It's the only explanation." She stands up and grabs me by the shoulders. Forcing me to look into her eyes she sends images into my mind, images that depict the fight that the gods fought and there was no mistaking that we were about to embark in the same battle.

The gods had chosen us. We weren't the King's champions; we were on this mission to do the Gods' dirty work. They had sent us in their stead because they believed that they had already done what was asked of them. Furious as I may be, I couldn't abandon ship when I knew that I held the lives of many in my hands. I couldn't just abandon Druvolain because I didn't earn my place here. The gods had ensured that my friends and I were destined for this purpose. This was why we had been placed on this planet and they intended for us to win. It wasn't in their interest to save us; we were meant to save ourselves and if we couldn't do that with the gifts the gods had granted than they saw it as our fault, and they didn't intend to save us.

"That's why Collin can't die." I breathe out and his name catches his attention.

"Why can't I die?"

"Because we are the gods' soldiers. If we die, we can't carry out their work so every time you get killed, they have to send you back. I'm sure the distraction you brought to Cygthos didn't help the situation, but it wasn't just that. He needs you to be here so that we can carry out the mission as a whole. It's like the battle of the gods when Druvolain came into existence. Aura is Phenia, Cat is Vorena, Reina is Athys, Menidise is Ahpilia, Collin has to be Cygthos and I'm Kituna. The only one left is Ualana and the only other person we've come into contact with for longer than just a hello was The Tearless Maiden. I guess Winona will be seeing us again sooner than she was planning."

"So, if we're supposed to represent the gods... Why am I so uncoordinated?" Catarina complains. According to the legends, Vorena hid in the shadows and spelled the enemy to believe that their own people were who they were meant to be fighting. She was never directly involved in any fighting.

Her job was to distract and confuse. Legend states that without her, the gods would've been outnumbered and would've lost, leaving the universe to the hands of the Dralan, creatures who devoured souls and fed on the pain of others. Handing Cat the paper that the legend had been printed on, she scans through it and a small smile reaches her lips. Nodding she places the page carefully onto the table in front of her.

Silence follows as information is processed. It wasn't the easiest thing to accept when you were just a short period of time away from a battle that you're going to risk your life to fight. Luckily, we were planning on capturing a Plague soldier to gain information from before we jump headfirst into the fray. We had to be as prepared as possible. The folders that the academy had provided didn't hold enough intel to be able to pinpoint the organizations' fighting tactics and we figured that the only way for us to have any chance at beating them is to get the information we need straight from the source.
