Aura's POVScanning the perimeter, I unconsciously began to hum. I couldn't pin the song to any memory, but I wasn't too concerned about it. I had suppressed the majority of my childhood due to the tainted view I had of them since my father was killed. Not sensing any danger, I fell back to walk with Nimue. She appeared stressed and yet she and the rest of the girls in our group were singing along to the same song I was. It wasn't a melody I could recall hearing and it unnerved me that Collin seemed to be the only one who wasn't singing along.
What was so different about the girls in the group? Where did the song come from and why was it so haunting? Listening to the harmonies that had come into play, I felt at home. As the song continued, I felt warmth run through me and my energy returned, looking over at the rest of the girls in the group, I could tell they felt the same way. Now the only reason we would need to stop was so that our friend Collin, who was currently on the verge of passing out, could rest.
"I know where the song is from." Catarina whispers, eyes widening in fear.
"What do you mean, where it's from? Isn't it just a song? I figured that it was a song you all had picked up before I'd shown up." Collin quirks a brow and my eyes land on Catarina's hands, which were tugging on the end of her braid and her lip was caught between her teeth. All signs that she was nervous. It wasn't clear if it was because she was close to Collin or whether it was due to the revelation she'd come to about the song.
"It's the song of the gods. Only the direct descendants and the gods themselves know what it is and as far as I'm aware we aren't direct descendants nor are we gods so can someone explain to me how it's possible that we all know what the words are?" She was trembling. Her face had paled, and I knew her mind was running a mile a minute. The witch tended to overthink any and all situations.
"It's probably because we're carrying out the prophecy that was made by the gods. It would only make sense that a song from the gods might transfer over, right?" I told her before sending her a look that conveyed my feelings. If she didn't drop it, I'd take her off to the side and we'd go through another round of basic blade training. Needless to say, she was quiet unless we asked her questions. It intrigued me to watch her and Nimue interact. They were like sisters, close and yet teasing one another seemed to be their life mission. Nimue and I on the other hand weren't as sibling like as I had originally thought. My heart didn't pound, and it didn't feel like my brain muddled when I was around Reina or Menidise, but with Nimue it was like all my senses were fried. It was probably just because she was my competition when it came to the graduation scholarship. I refused to think that I had any feelings for her. It has to be that she's the first person to show me any form of kindness other than the Headmaster and his staff.
"..ra, Aura, hey Druvolain to Aura!" Catarina was jumping up and down in front of me and I noticed that we had stopped. Swiveling my head around to check on the others I find Reina wrapping a wound that's appeared on Nimue's arm. Almost immediately the white cloth was soaked through with blood and I groaned. Biting into my wrist, my fangs piercing the skin and making me wince slightly, I grabbed one of the cups and drained a little bit of blood into the base. Mixing it with the Balenia leaves I kept in my satchel, I offered the mixture to Nimue who watched me warily.
"This is a cup of blood." She blurts out.
"Really, I didn't know. It's mixed with Balenia so with the help of my blood and the catalyst you're wound should heal almost instantly. Drink it. How did this even happen?" I retort before tipping the cup to meet her lips. A small trickle escapes her lips and drips onto the ground, and she grimaces.
"I was playing with the dagger you gave me, and I accidentally threw it at Nimue. I feel terrible, I'm never using it again unless absolutely necessary." Catarina cast her gaze to the ground in an attempt to hide her guilt and my heart went out to her. She and Nimue were really close and I had no doubt that she was feeling horrible about her injury.
