Nimue's POV

I haven't slept, eaten or felt anything but numb for days. Seeing Catarina's body lying on the cold metal table of the morgue didn't help me the way I thought it would. All it accomplished was to solidify the fact that she was gone. I was never going to hear her obnoxious laughter or sarcastic comments again. Never feel the warmth of her hand as she grasps mine to pull me into a dance. Or watch her skin glow while she casts a spell. She's gone, and there's nothing I can do to change that.

She was easy to love. Every aspect of her was created to soothe. To bring light and life when the world appears to be ending. Cat was the answer to every problem I had ever had and now, because of some stupid organization that thinks they know best, she's dead. I won't get to tell her just how much I care for her. There won't be a chance to grow old together or to rub our victory in my parents faces. Catarina Devonshire would live on through her friends, but it would never be the same as having the real thing right next to me.

A knock at the door broke me from my reverie. Opening the door, I come face to face with one of my old students who greets me with a bright smile. I don't reciprocate.

"What do you want?" I inquire. His smile drops and he steps back slightly, clearing his throat.

"The healers wanted me to tell you and Aura Starzan that one Catarina Devonshire woke up." He states, looking down at his hand which was covered in writing, the ink smudged. He watches me for a reaction and huffs when I don't make any move to give an indication as to why we were being told this information so quickly. Shaking myself, I slam the door in his face. Sprinting back into the room, I jump on Aura. She groans, having fallen asleep after waking up from a nightmare. They had become more frequent since Cat's death, which apparently hasn't been as permanent as we thought.

"What is your problem? A few days and you're good to go?" She hisses.

            "She's awake!"

"Who?"

"CATARINA!!" She sits up so fast, I fall off of her onto the floor, but I didn't care because our witch was awake.

Hastily grabbing clothes and yanking them on, we race out the door and fly down the stairs to the basement, running into the morgue to find Cat alive, sitting up and ordering the coroner around.

"You can't just go around telling people they can't get up. I'll do whatever I want. By the way, can someone get the group of soldiers who probably just got back a few days ago. I need to talk to Aura or Nimue. They go to school here." She is shouting at the poor man. Clearing my throat, I grab her attention and her head whips in our direction and a grin splits her face. Taking her in I recoil slightly, she does look like she's been dead. Her skin is pale and there are deep bruises underneath her eyes, indicative of the fact that she's been dead almost a week.

"How are you even back?" Aura murmurs, stepping closer to grab her hand.

"Cygthos took a while to find me but when he did, we talked about what happened. He couldn't keep me down there because according to him, the prophecy isn't fulfilled."

"You have got to be kidding me! You come back only to tell us that we're still screwed?!" I exclaim. She glares at me but I couldn't care less. She was back and that was all that mattered to me.

"Which we already knew because we got that information from the guy who was leading the team of soldiers in the battle. The one where you were killed, might I add." Aura pipes in.
