Kayle
16 Years Old
"Dylan, seriously, this is so frustrating!"
"What's frustrating about it, you get to use me as an alibi as you go off and make out with Bennett." She stuck her tongue out at me and I couldn't help but laugh at my best friend as we walked through the halls to lunch.
"I just want to grab his stupid face and kiss him."
"Do it. Colt already knows anyway."
"Juniors don't date Seniors."
"Who says?" Dylan laughed. "Is that some crazy rule that I don't know about?" I huffed and rolled my eyes. "How long have you two been sneaking around?"
"Like almost a year." She laughed. "Why is that funny?" She shrugged and pointed ahead at Colt and Bennett walking toward us. Bennett was staring at me smiling. Colt was talking to him but rolled his eyes when he realized what was actually going on.
"Y'all been sneaking around all summer, we just started school a week ago, I'm shocked that people don't know yet."
"Yet, being the key word!" Colt stated with another eyeroll. I stuck my tongue out at him.
"I can easily change that." Bennett winked at me before pulling me into his arms. "Missed you."
"Missed you too." I couldn't help my smile.
"Why exactly are we keeping us quiet again?" I shrugged. "Alright, just making sure there wasn't a real reason before I did this." I was about to ask what but his hands hit my cheeks and I melted into a puddle as his lips hit mine.
"Oh my god!" Bennett slowly pulled away and looked over at the voice, so did I. "Just wait till everyone finds out about that!" Jessica laughed and ran off to start the gossip train.
"She's so dumb." Ansley walked over shaking her head.
"So, who wants to put money down that Cole's going to kill Bennett?" Dylan said laughing.
"Oh, I'm taking that bet." Colt laughed.
"Same!" Ansley grabbed a five out of her pocket and they all walked away laughing. I leaned up against the locker and Bennett's hand went above my head.
"What they don't know is I already told Cole." He wiggled his eyebrows. "I'm still alive." He laughed. His drawl made my heart melt, his smile made my heart soar, and his kiss. God his kiss could make me do things I never knew I wanted to do. "Movie tonight?" I nodded. "Everyone going to be home?" I nodded and rolled my eyes. He shrugged. "Come on let's go eat."
A lot has changed over the past year, Bennett moved in with his grandmother being the biggest one. He worked his ass off for my dad this summer and bought a truck just to be able to come and see me more, and take me out on actual dates. He sure as hell showed me that romance was real. It was shocking at first because guys don't act like that, ever. I mean my brothers are sweet and all to their girlfriends and whatever but that's because Dad taught them. I never expected Bennett to be as amazing and sweet as he was, knowing his father.
He was nothing like him though that's for sure. Bennett worked hard, in school and out of school. Every chance that he could. Granted he was still set on going into the Navy after he graduated and that doomsday was breaking me down every single day it got closer. I tried not to think about it, about all the what ifs. What if he found someone else, being the biggest one. I mean we had a two-year age gap and he was going to be far away. Plus, we've never like slept together, he tells me he's fine with waiting and all that but like...is he really?
These were the things constantly on my mind. Even while I was laying on his shoulder watching a movie. I was covered in my favorite blanket with his arm around me. He was asleep sitting up with his head on the back of the couch.
"HAND CHECK!" My Dad yelled startling Bennett, he looked around for a second before laughing.
"Are you kidding me. DAD!" I rolled my eyes.
"Hand check, now missy." Bennett put his hand around me up, his other hand was on his stomach so he lifted that as well. I was just staring annoyed at my dad.
"Seriously, if I was one of the boys, you'd be patting me on the back right now! You can literally see all of him since only I have the blanket on, and again you're only doing this crap because I'm a girl!"
"Yup." Dad smiled before sitting down. I rolled my eyes and shook my head. Within minutes Cole came walking in the house.
"Awe shit, I love this movie!" He plopped down right next to Bennett, who just laughed again. Colt and Jensen came downstairs next and one sat next to me the other next to Cole. Then Seth came running in and laughed jumping on Bennett's lap.
"I hate, every, single, one of you." We all looked over when the door opened, not really sure who to expect. Cole always came over after his son fell asleep, I guess he told his girlfriend that he needed to get things ready for the next day or whatever. His way of just getting away from her. He was obviously already here, so when my best friend came walking in, her brown hair stuck to her face. Cole was the first to jump up and walk over to her. The two of them were close, I was hoping that one day they'd end up together because I knew how much she cared about him, and it was obvious how much he cares about her.
I slid out from between Colt and Bennett and walked over, Dylan was already tight against Cole's chest crying, and he was just holding on to her. He was quietly shushing her as I rubbed her back. Cole lifted her cradle style, and brought her over to sit on the couch, but he didn't let go of her. Just held her tight on his lap. He looked at me wide-eyed and I shrugged. We just continued to watch the movie, she would talk when she was ready.
Once the movie was over and everyone started heading to bed, not until after Bennett pretended to leave. You know he got in his truck and left the driveway but went through the woods so we could meet back up and actually be alone together for a little before his curfew. Dylan was always my alibi when it came to sneaking out and even though she still hasn't talked to me about whatever happened she still stayed the night like she normally would. I waited till my parents' door was shut before going outside. Slightly shocked at what I saw.
My big brother, holding up my best friend by her ass, while her legs were wrapped around his middle and she looked like she was undoing her bathing suit top laughing.
"Ooookay..." I whispered knowing they saw and heard me before heading around the pool and out into the woods. It was so quiet out here and always slightly terrifying walking out here alone but I'd do it every night just to spend all the time I possibly could with Bennett. So, when he snuck around a tree and grabbed me of course I screamed.
"You're going to get us caught." He laughed, and I spun around in his arms attempting to hit his chest but couldn't because of how close he held me. "What took you so long?" I rolled my eyes and shook my head.
"So mad at you right now."
"Why?" He asked innocently, I just looked at him like he was dumb.
"Anyway, you'll never guess what I just walked out on."
"I'm obviously not going to be guessing." He laughed.
"Dylan and Cole mighty close in the pool." I was staring at him waiting for the same reaction I had.
"Were they like making out close?"
"I don't know! They were laughing and he was holding her up, and like her legs were wrapped...she looked like she was taking off her top!"
"Would you like to reenact this for me? I'm not sure I can picture it." He smiled wide and I couldn't help my laugh. "I love you." My laugh stopped abruptly; I was speechless. Bennett smiled and let out a slight laugh. "I didn't mean it to come out like that, I just couldn't hold it in any longer." I bit my lip and smiled. "Say something." He laughed again. "You don't have to say it back, just say anything."
"I love you too." His smile hit his eyes and even after he pulled my lips to his I could still feel that smile.
