Y/N HAD LOCKED EYES with the person standing at the front door.

"Hikaru?" She stared at her older brother. This was the first time in a while that she'd catch him when he returned home from hero work.

"Welcome home." Y/n greeted.

"What are you doing up so late? It's almost 2 in the morning!" He said.

"...I got a cake and candles." Y/n answered, hoping that her brother would get the hint.

"Oh crap that's right! Happy birthday y/n." He walked up to her and gave her a hug. It was kind of awkward considering they rarely see each other.

Y/n's eyes widened, but she quickly wrapped her arms around her brother. Affection of any kind was foreign to y/n, so this was a nice change. She hugged her brother tighter. It was one of those rare moments where Hikaru would do anything brotherly. So she wanted to take advantage of it.

Y/n pulled away "I was actually saving the cake for later tonight. I was thinking that we could do the cake together."

"Ah...about that. I'm actually going on a mission, so I'll be really busy. It'll only probably be for a couple of days. So I won't be able to make it for your birthday, I'm so sorry."

oh.

So that's why he was showing affection. Trying to butter her up just to dump some bad news on her after.

"It's fine." Y/n said as she pushed passed her brother to go upstairs.

Things weren't going so well for y/n. This was supposed to be a day dedicated to her; So why was it going to horribly?

Just as she was going to go to bed, her phone vibrated.

She picked it up, it read:

Message from: Shoto Todoroki

Are you okay? You seemed down during our walk back.

Y/n opened it, and replied.

yeah I'm fine thanks :)

Todoroki: Okay. Night.

She turned her phone off and closed her eyes.

Y/n had wasted the WHOLE day sleeping. It was now 4:00pm. She didn't feel like going out. It's not like she had anyone to go out with, and she didn't need anything either. She spent her day reading manga, and watching anime as usual.

She had even cleaned up her room a bit, for FUN.

It was now around 7:30 pm, the sunset rays painted y/n's room with beautiful orange in yellow hues. She was in the middle of watching an episode of (f (favourite)/a(anime). Suddenly her phone rang.

She picked it up and answered right away when she saw the caller ID.

"Hello?" She said.

"Hey. Can I talk to you? In person." Said the peppermint boy. His voice sounded deeper on the phone.

Y/n's mind began racing, was it important? What something wrong?

"Yeah sure, but aren't you tired from your training?" Y/n asked.

"I'm fine, I just wanted to ask you something. Can we meet at the park?" Todoroki asked.

Y/n felt her heart beating faster for some reason. She grew anxious, wondering what Todoroki wanted to ask her.

"Yeah, okay."she replied.

"Alright. See you then." The bi-coloured boy hung up the phone.

Y/n arrived at the park to see her friend already waiting for her on a picnic bench. In fact, it was the same bench they sat on when they ate together.

It was a walking park, with grassy hills and a paved path and street lamps. It was peaceful, with the sunset and the fountain running.

"Hey...is everything alright?" Y/n was nearing the park bench. Todoroki stood up and faced her.

Todoroki stood up with a bag in his hands and held in in front of her.

"Happy birthday l/n."

"Wha?!? How did you know?" She exclaimed. This was a surprise she hadn't expected.

"I know you told me the cake and candles were for your older brother. But when I told you I wasn't free earlier today, you instantly became quiet and didn't talk the whole way back. I just put two and two together." Explained the two toned boy.

Y/n took the gift bag Todoroki was holding out to her. She pulled the small bag close to her chest. Her heart couldn't have been beating any faster. Not only had he made time for her, but he had also thought of her and cared enough to get her a gift.

Y/n looked at the handsome boy, his eyes were gorgeous under the setting sun. They had a gentle glow, striking y/n in the heart.

"Thank you...so much." Y/n looked down to the ground to hide the wide smile she had. Her face also felt hot. She bowed to thank him once more.

"It's no problem, now to what I wanted to ask you," the peppermint boy said.

"...why did you lie?"

Y/n paused.

"...I don't know, you just seemed busy so I didn't want to add anything more to your already busy schedule." She wasn't lying.

"But aren't friends supposed to make time for each other?" Todoroki asked.

"Yeah, they are." Y/n admitted.

"So then are we not friends-?"

"Yes! Yes we are, I just didn't wanna feel like I was wasting your time. I'm really sorry I lied. The last thing I want to happen is for us to not be friends." Y/n let out exactly what was on her mind.

The peppermint boy stayed silent for a moment. "I'm glad you feel the same way." She could've sworn she saw the tiniest smile on his face.

Y/n cleared her throat, "Do you...have time to stop by for cake?" She asked.

"yeah sure." Todoroki replied, not like he wanted to go home anytime soon.

Y/n couldn't have been more happier right now. It was almost too good to be true. The two of them walked back to y/n's house. The walk was silent, but it was a comfortable silence.

"By the way..." y/n began.

"You can call me y/n."
