Chapter 19 : Anirudh's emotional Apology

Bondita was quickly gulping all her breakfast. 

"Thori baat, thori..." Thakuma was saying but she looked at Bondita who was glaring at her.

"Mera matlb, Bhajan gana aur khana khana kabhi jldi mei hote hai bhala? Aaram se kha, teri kaunsi train chutne wali hai" continued Thakuma.

"Train nhi chut rahi Thakuma..lekin aaj meri internship..mera matlb, ek tarah se kaam ka pehla din hai..aur pehle din daer se jana acha hoga kya?" said Bondita getting up as she finished her food.

"Bondita beta, aaj teri Intranshraap..Jo bhi hai..Uska pehla din hai, yeh le, dahi cheeni kha ke ja" said Sumati bringing a bowl of curd and sugar.

Bondita ate it quickly in one go. "Maa, acha hai..Lekin iski jagah agar tu roshgulla khilati toh.."

"Chup rah, tujhe humesha roshgulle khane ki pari rehti hai naa?" said Sumati patting her cheek lovingly.

"Haa kaki..Vaise bhi aaj toh Bondita didi ko aath handiya..." said Tapur but she quickly realized that she has nearly spoiled Anirudh's surprise for Bondita, so she shut her mouth.

Before Bondita could guess something, Thakuma spoke up..

"aaj toh tujhe Anirudh se milne hai naa, yaad rkhna bhool mat jana!"

Bondita nodded with a not so good face as she got engulfed in her thoughts.

"Kyu Bondita, ab der nhi nhi horhi tujhe?" asked Sumati diverting her attention.

Bondita glanced at her wrist watch and she ran saying,

"Hey dugga maa, aaj pehle din hi late hogayi mai"

 Deenpur court :

It was 5pm. Bondita got up and handed over a bunch of files to Mr. Ghosh.

"Well done! You are a quick learner Ms. Bondita. " he said

" No sir, it not me...the way you explain things is really intriguing " 

"You are such a humble soul... Theek hai, aaj ke liye itna kaafi hai. Mujhe apse kuch baat bhi karni thi, if you have 5 mins!"

"Haa sir boliye naa."

"Actually, I'm really sorry...Par ek case ke silsile mei mujhe urgently kal ek hafte ke liye Calcutta jana hai. Since apki internship 15 days ki hai starting today, I would suggest you ki aap apni continuity naa tore. Maine aaj hi Mr. Anirudh ko apki recommendation bheji thi...In my opinion, aap unke under kaam kar lijiye for further experience. He is brilliant too . Voh generally interns nahi lete experience ke liye, but based on your merit, he has selected you."

"Umm sir would you mind, agar mai iss bare mei sochne ka thora samay lelu?"

"Sure Ms. Bondita! Why not. Just incase agar aap inke under nhi kaam krna chahti toh you can wait for a week and then we can resume this. As you wish, dear."

"Thank You sir. May I have your leave now?" 

"Sure"

Bondita leaves Mr.  Ghosh's cabin. She looks at her watch ..She had to meet Anirudh at 5:30, in Deenpur old Haveli .It was 5 :15 already. If she goes home to change & then comeback , she would be late, hence she thought that it's better to leave right away.

She took of her robe and put on her files on her cycle's basket. She then rode it to reach the haveli. It was 5:20pm. She was 10 mins early. She decided to park her cycle outside and got inside. It was getting dark, so she lit some candles lying nearby.

Soon she heard screeching sound of a vehicle. She turned opposite to the entry gate.

Anirudh came out of his car. He looked at the cycle parked outside at one corner.

"Oh so Bondita's already here!" he thought. He then took a deep breath, clutched a card he was holding, and went inside.

"Bondita?" he called out. Bondita felt jubilant vibrations touch her soul on that voice. 

No response. He moved a bit closer to a figure standing facing the wall, under the dim light of the candle flames. He took another deep breath, regained his confidence and spoke up once more,

"Acha, toh tum ab mujhse baat bhi nahi krogi?" he asked.

Bondita shook her head in No, trying not melting away.

"Meri taraf dekhogi bhi nahi?" he asked further. Bondita again shook her head, trying to look firm.

Anirudh had expected this, but he too is Bondita's biristara babu! He had come all prepared. From his pocket, he took out a Bondita's old tele-phun. He threw one end of that towards Bondita, who was still not facing him.

"Tring Tring..." he called out.

Bondita couldn't resist herself now. She picked up the end of coconut shell towards her, and put it to her ears. Anirudh was delighted.

"Hello Sumati maa..Anirudh bol raha hu, Bondita ka Sakha babu" anirudh spoke.

All of Bondita's childhood memories now flashed in front of her. This phone had a significant contribution to her forever cherished moments.

"Jamai Babu, Bondita naraz hai apse!" she spoke.

"Kyu maa?"

"Kyunki apne dil.."she said & stopped abruptly . Anirudh smiled.

"Mera matlab hai... kyunki apne bharosa tora hai uska" she said.

"Maa, mai kbhi Bondita ko dukh mei dekh skta hu kya? lekin ek baat bataiye, usse mere bharosa kare yaa naa karne se itna farak kyu para?"

"Kyunki Sakha Babu mai apse pyaar..." said Bondita as she dropped the coconut end, turning around. She realized what a blunder she did and turned back again.

"Kuch kaha Bondita?" asked Anirudh mischievously .

Bondita remained silent.

"Acha voh choro. Jab hum pehli baar mile aath saal baad, tab tum Baijanti..nhi..Vaijyanti thi. Dursi baar mile, tab tum Barrister Babu Bondita Das thi..
Lekin mai apni sakhi Bondita se toh 8 saal baad mil raha hu naa? Toh kya aise hi milogi tu mujhse?" 

"Nahi milungi mai apse Biris..Barrister Babu" 

Anirudh's heart pierced listening to her calling him 'barrister babu', instead of 'biristara babu'. 

"Bondita, jitne chahe utna gussa karlo, chahe toh saza bhi dedo..Mujhe swekar hoga..
Lekin mujhse aise muh mat moro...please" said Anirudh, pleading.

"Aur jab aapne mora tha tab?"  said Bondita, angrily.

"Mai galat tha Bondita. Boht galat. Mujhe maaf krdo. In  8 saalo mei tumse dur rehkar mai patthar-dil bangaya tha, aur fir jin halato mei hum mile..
Mai janta hu tumhare liye yeh mushkil hoga, lekin kya tum mujhe ek mauka bhi nhi de skti? " said Anirudh, tears dripping from his eyes as he kneeled down.
