"YOU'RE OUT of the case, I've already asked someone else to handle it."

My body felt frozen. I couldn't say I didn't see it coming, and I knew I'll never be able to lock Draco up, even if I tried. Not because I was too weak, but every time we meet, it's like I was soft as jelly. Just one look from him, I knew my knees would go weak.

I'll never be able to finish this job, but if I want to keep him alive, I need to make sure no one else catches him.

"I'm sorry, sir, but if you just give me another chance-!"

Robards didn't even let me continue, "You've had your chance! Had him cornered, even! But you let him get away," the Head Auror shook his head in disappointment, and I couldn't help but want to melt into my chair, shame running through my veins, "I must say, I expected better from you, Edinburgh."

My skin felt cold, "I promise, I'll do better, just let me keep this case."

But I knew it was the end of the conversation when Gawain Robards put his quill down, "Do better when I've given you a new case. For now, go home, and take a break. You must be exhausted from the mission."

There was nothing else to do, so I stood up, and bid my goodbye, hanging my head low as I walked through the Ministry, pulling my coat tightly around me. I was done for. So was Draco.

If that wasn't my last mission, I doubt I'll live long enough to do another one.

I couldn't help but let out a shaky breath as I stopped in front of a flooing station.

No. I thought, I want to take the long way home.

My feet stepped forward into the flooing station, my small voice letting out the words: "Muggle London," and just like that, I disappeared into the green smoke.

I appeared in Muggle London, inside a telephone booth. I walked out, dusting off my sleeves. And just as I did, England weather started to happen.

The rain started to pour, making me frown. I didn't have an umbrella, nevertheless though, I kept my pace, walking slightly slowly to my flat, my coat soaked in rain.

People were either walking with umbrellas, or was running to shelter themselves, but I kept walking without anything above my head. My train of thoughts kept going, thinking of what happens now.

I hardly noticed myself stop in front of my flat building, the rain pouring quite hard. I shivered, only noticing how cold it was. Quickly running inside the building, I got my keys from my small bag, unlocking the door.

As soon as I closed my flat's front door, I shrugged my coat off, dropping my bag and my shoes on the floor beside the door. I quickly grabbed my wand from my coat's pocket, lighting up my fireplace, my eyes closing in such satisfaction for the warmth it gave.

Once I was warm enough, yet still soaked from the rain, I sat down on the floor by the fire, not caring if my carpet got wet. I've got more important problems other than wet carpets as of the moment.

My mind raced, from my career as an Auror, to Draco. I considered leaving the country, and starting a new life. Maybe that'll be better for everyone.

But then, Draco would get caught. He'll be locked up inn Azkaban until his death.

Suddenly, I heard someone apparate behind me, I cursed myself for forgetting to put the wards back up. But then, I realized, and made no move to attack. I knew that smell too much to not know who it was.
