The King called for the royal huntswoman, his heart bursting with jealousy.

"Take to the forest and kill him," he ordered. "I can't stand him near me. Bring me back his lungs and liver, so I know he's dead."

The huntswoman was horrified, but she had to obey.

White Snow chatted happily as they went into the forest.

The huntswoman didn't say a word. Under a giant oak tree, she took out a knife and pulled him from his elephant.

"What are you doing?" he shouted in alarm.

"King's orders," said the huntswoman, sadly. "He wants me to... kill you."

"What?" cried White Snow. "No! Please, let me go," he begged. His dark eyes filled with tears and the huntswoman took pity on him.

As she stood there, she spotted a tiger in the distance. "I'll take its lungs and liver to the King," she thought," "and White Snow will be safe."

She turned to White Snow. "Run, then," she said, "but never return to the palace."
