[Xavier's POV]

Tap Tap Tap

The sound of my footsteps echoed off the castle walls. I whistled happily until I heard voices up ahead.

Looking around the corner, I saw my father's throne room door cracked open.

As I neared the door, the voices became clearer.

"Sir, I'm sorry. We searched everywhere, but we still can't find the girl."

Through the crack I could see two servants kneeling before the throne; my Father, the King himself, sat in the stone structure tapping his fingers together, a questioning look on his face.

He sat up straighter in the chair, "Tell me if I understand. You haven't found her?"

The servants shook their heads.

The one on the left spoke again, "Yes, that's correct, Sir. We've searched all over and even captured the rest of her pack, but they won't tell where she is or give us any hints as to her whereabouts. We can't even find a decent trail. We're shooting in the dark."

The servant stopped himself and fell silent, afraid he had said too much.

The man on the right lifted his head, speaking for the first time, "If you don't mind me asking, Sir, why are we even looking for her?"

The King stared at the servant.

"I mean, what good is she to us? She costs us nothing but trouble and from what I've heard, she's a total bitch-"

A sickening crack filled the air. In an instant, the King had pierced the man's heart, his hand protruding from the vampires back.

In one slick motion, he slipped his hand out and the body fell with a thud.

Blood pooled on the floor and covered my father's forearm.

The king licked his hand, his fangs glinting, visible from even across the room, "That is my future Daughter-in-Law you're talking about. Please refrain from calling her such harsh names."

My Father's eyes shown red as he glanced from the dead vampire to the still kneeling servant, "Now, tell me. Is your search over yet?"

The servant shook his head and mumbled a "No sir."

My Father turned and walked back to the throne, "Good. Now hurry and go find her."

He sat down and crossed his legs, hosted eye burning, "You wouldn't want to keep me waiting any longer, would you?"

"No Sir." With a quick bow, the servant hurriedly left the room.

The door flew open as he left, revealing me.

I sheepishly smiled at my Father as his eyes narrowed. "Ah Father! I was looking for you! Silky goose, you've been hiding in here this whole time-"

"You saw what happened?"

I stopped in my tracks and gulped.

Looking at the dead body on the floor, my stomach dropped and a cold chill ran up my spine.

Thinking about the power my Father had amazed and intimidated me...but also scared me.

"...Yes. I saw."

I don't understand what's so special about this girl, other than the fact that she's my "Future Bride" that makes my Father so kill-happy. Why is she so important?

"So you understand what needs to be done?"

My Father's voice snapped me back to reality. "Why do you mean?"

His features became less hard and stoic, and softened with amusement, "You're going to help look for Sage Frost. Your Bride-To-Be." His face turned cold once again, "Or there will be consequences."

As my Fathers words sank in, I became stiff and paled as the realization of the situation hit me.

If I didn't find her, there would only be one consequence to face when I got home-

Death.
