Karampreet 'Kami' Bajwa was born in Punjab, India. When she was 6, her father got relocated for his job and was sent to the Atlanta branch, the entire family moving to Georgia, U.S.

Kami was a bright girl. She was always rushing to complete her homework as soon as she got home, turning them in well before the due date. Because of this, one would assume her to be arrogant and self-righteous but she wasn't, quite the opposite in fact. Kami was incredibly empathetic and intuitive but that also made her very stubborn and impatient at times.

Her and her family were close, having three siblings and an abundant amount of cousins that lived in America. Her mother stayed at home, keeping the house in order and looking after her younger siblings. Her father always worked extra time for them to be able to take yearly trips back to India to visit their grandparents. She loved her family, something that she thought would never change.

But the thing about Indian families was that you couldn't keep a secret. Kami always knew that. Growing up, the aunties would always bitch on her if she was wearing something they deemed 'inappropriate,' if they saw her hanging out with people they thought she shouldn't. Kami thought that moving to New York would relieve some of that pressure off her shoulders and she could finally be who she always knew she was.

Kami knew she was gay from the fourth grade. She sat next to this girl, the girl with the raven hair. Kami found her young self always wishing to be around her, always wanting to play with her during recess. When Kami held her hand and comforted her after she fell off the swings one lunch, Kami knew she would never look back.

During university, she met a woman, Amelia Williams, was her name. She feel in love. How could she be so naive to think that everyone wouldn't find out? Because they did, oh boy, they did. And everything went to shit.

Kami was kicked out of the house, her family cutting all ties with her the moment they found out from the auntie who went to visit her friend that lived in New York. The venom that her family spat at her, the pure hatred that their faces held, the disgust and embarrassment of having a gay daughter was just too much for them.

And so Kami never left New York, graduating with honours in social sciences and getting a low-paying job as a youth worker with the organisation T.R.Y (The Rising Youth).

She soon became very lonely, her girlfriend had cheated on her which forced her to find her own place. Kami was at the lowest she had ever been, having no one to turn to, being completely cut off from her family. She managed to pull together enough money rent out an apartment which just happened to be next door to Phoebe Buffay, an old one night stand.
