"Alright, excellent job everyone. You all gave some really excellent contributions today," Kami expressed to the kids sitting on the luminescent, plastic chairs in a circle, clapping her hands together.
"Thank you," a chorus of voices called back out to her, all varying degrees of enthusiasm as they got out of their seats.
"High-fives all around, guys," Kami said, holding her hand towards them.
Kami chuckled as she raised her hand higher as the shortest kid approaches her, he missing her hand and slapping the air.
"Aw, I can't do that to you, Kendrick, you taught me about how sea turtles cry salt. I had clue!" Kami said, letting him hit her palm the second time, feeling bad for the poor kid.
"I'll see you for our meeting tomorrow morning, yeah, Anna?" Kami said to the pregnant girl, tapping her on the shoulder lightly. Kami had to ensure she kept her sympathetic pout inside every time she looked at the girl. Anna had her whole life planned out ahead of her, she believed it was over but that isn't true, she had so much to still look forward and that was Kami's job to remind her.
"10 o'clock, yeah?" Anna asked, accepting her bag from Kami which she grabbed for her, not wanting her to bend over.
"Sharp, or you'll get no biscuits. I'll force feed you dried plums, instead," Kami replied, arching her eyebrow.
The kids were mostly out of the room and she was beginning to pile away the set of chairs when a thought suddenly struck her.
"Jayden!" Kami called, a ripple effect of heads turned back to look at her but she only smiled when the one who's name belonged to them finally looked back at her. "Come here for a sec, I want a quick word."
"Why do I feel like I'm in trouble." He said, walking back into the room, his hand holding the strap of his backpack tight.
"Nah, you don't get into trouble here," Kami replied, putting down the cluster of chairs she was holding. "Perhaps, a nice, stern talking to but...you're never in trouble."
Jayden nodded and took a seat again on one the chairs that she had left untouched. Kami followed suit, wanting to give him the most comfortable atmosphere and match his energy.
"Have you thought about signing up for that apprenticeship I was telling you about?" She asked, slouching slighting, not sitting as straight as she normally would.
"...Yes," Jayden said and Kami couldn't help roll her eyes and laugh lightly.
"Yeah, real convincing, Jayden. Seriously, I think it's something you should really do. I've been running this workshop for years now and nobody has come up with such profound ideas and have been able to articulate them as well as you," Kami said encouragingly.
