Chapter 12: Spin the Bottle

The kids all get super hyped up with pizza and soda, laughing their heads off about anything and everything that they can. Dakota keeps a timer going on her t-phone, reminding the mutants of when they need to change their patch.

Venus yawns, resting her head on Blake's shoulder, who in turn rests his on Keith's, who is leaning against the couch sleeping.

Dean stands up, moving towards them. Carefully, he picks up Venus and cradles her gently in his arms.

"I'll take her to bed," he offers.

"I've got Blake," Asher says.

"I've got Keith," Mitch seconds.

The three boys head off to the bedroom. They return quickly, sitting down with their friends again.

"Now that the kids are asleep, we can play a different game," Nixie says. She grins deviously. "Spin the bottle."

The girls all blush, making the guys laugh despite their cheeks also turning pink. Nixie smirks.

"Come on, it'll be fun," Lukas says. "We just all have to promise each other that this is just a game."

"Nothing else," Asher agrees.

"Good. That's what I was thinking," Dakota says.

"I'll go first," Dean offers, taking a soda bottle from nearby. "Even though I've never kissed anyone..."

"Seriously dude? I would've thought girls would be all over you!" Lukas admits.

Dean shakes his head. "I don't think anyone in my family has been kissed yet."

The other Hamatos nod in agreement. The sandy-haired human laughs.

"That makes the game even more fun," he says.

Dean puts the soda bottle in the centre of the circle and spins it. It spins around and around until it slowly lands on Elisabeth.

Everyone lets out a chorus of teasing "Ooo's", making Elisabeth blush. Dean smirks and walks over to her, leaning down and giving her a short and sweet kiss.

"You just stole my lip virginity," he whispers to her.

She blushes and punches his arm lightly, making him laugh.

"Oh stop," she mutters.

"Ooo! I wanna go! I wanna go!" Mitch volunteers.

He spins the bottle. It spins and spins, starting to slow down around Nixie's spot. Then, it inches past her and lands on Copeland. Everyone bursts out laughing.

Copeland crosses her arms. "No way I'm kissing you."

"You're my cousin...that's so weird..." Mitch groans.

"Just kiss her cheek, you big baby," Nixie teases.

He leans over and pecks Copeland on the cheek. "There! Shut up!"

Everyone laughs again.

"Me next!" Dakota volunteers.

She spins. It comes to a stop on Lukas.

"Score..." he whispers.

Asher punches his arm.

Dakota sighs, stands up, and walks over to him. She leans down, kisses him assertively, and goes back to her spot. Lukas winks and flashes the "Call me" signal, making Asher punch his arm again and narrow his eyes.

"That's my sister," he hisses.

"She's cute. Deal with it," his friend returns.

"Kelly, why don't you go?" Dean suggests.

She blushes. "Oh...I don't know."

"Go on! We've got to have full participation here," Copeland says.

She gulps and spins it. It lands on Asher. Dakota looks to her twin, her eyes wide. Kelly blushes profusely.

"Hey, I kissed your best friend," Dakota comments. "Now you've got to kiss mine."

Kelly looks at her hands, her cheeks still red. Asher takes a deep breath, moving over to Kelly's side. He leans over and kissing her lips gently, his movements slow and calculated. She adjusts her glasses, smiling a little as she tries to calm the redness in her cheeks.

"Copeland! You spin!" Mitch decides.

"No! I already got kissed!" she shouts.

"On the cheek," Nixie reminds her. "Spin it!"

The dark-haired girl sighs and sends the bottle rotating. It lands on Tiki.

"Oh...uh..." Tiki blushes, falling over his words. "You don't have to. I'm...uh...I'm-"

She cuts him off with a quick kiss. He falls over in shock, making everyone giggle again.

"Nixie! You've got to kiss someone still!" Asher announces.

Nixie grins dangerously and does it. The bottle points to Mitch when it stops moving. The blond's mouth falls open as he looks to his female best friend.

"I...uh...wow, uh..."

She rolls her eyes, grabbing the front of his shirt and pressing her lips to his. She pulls away quickly, smirking.

"Not bad, MJ," she teases.

He ruffles his curls, smiling a little as he giggles.

They play a few more rounds, deciding to end it after Asher and Dakota get each other. Dakota grins and kisses her brother's cheek, making him gag and squirm. Everyone laughs.

They all change into their pyjamas, some changing their patch, in separate rooms before climbing in to their sleeping bags and watching a late night movie.

Taylor, Annalise, Sarina, and Destiny all leave their sleeping husbands in bed, creeping to the living room. They find their children and their friends curled up in big pile in front of the TV, where the ending credits of Space Heroes IV is playing.

Annalise moves to Mitch's side, pressing a kiss to her son's forehead.

"Crazy kids," she murmurs.

Sarina chuckles, looking at how Asher and Dakota are snuggled right next to each other with Kelly and Lukas at their sides.

"Good thing those patches can be worn when you're sleeping," Taylor comments, watching her daughter snoozing.

"It's not easy to lie to those you care about...but this is necessary," Destiny says, ruffling Dean's hair gently.

"They're good kids. They've found good friends," Sarina murmurs. "Maybe one day we'll be able to tell them the truth."

For a brief moment, their own patches seem to fade off, revealing Destiny's glowing green eyes and the silhouette of her dark wings. Sarina's eyes seem to flash blue in the dark lighting of the living room.

"Good night, children," Annalise says sweetly as she turns off the TV.
