~Probably proof read~~
Dream's passion for horseback riding was always big. He enjoyed being in the mere presence of the dangerous yet beautiful animals. He had always wanted to become the worlds best barrel racer and low and behold... he didn't become the best rider. But, he could officially say that he was the best horseback rider in the whole state of Texas.
Dream snapped back into reality when he heard his name being called. His head shot up from its downwards position, only for his eyes to be met with his closest friend, Sapnap's, eyes. "What?" He asked bluntly. Sapnap wasn't even fazed. "I said, we have to get the cows from out in the field." Sapnap repeated himself, sighing. Dream put down his bottle of saddle oil and followed Sapnap outside, lead ropes in hand.
Going out to catch the cows was the main highlight of Dream's days, most of the time. He truly loved galloping in the fields with Sapnap and their mares. His mother always said they took after their fathers when they were sent out to get the cattle. It brought a smile to Dream's face whenever he was compared to his father.
His father was a great man, known to be one of the best bull wranglers in Texas, Dream admired him for that.
The two quickly mounted their giddy and excited mares, careful not to hurt themselves on the horn of their saddles. The mares knew they will be able to run freely, not like they did that every night anyways, making them more and more excited.
Dream and Sapnap exchanged the same excited glances as they did when they were younger, except this time, they were the ones wrangling.
Drista opened the gates quickly, seeing the two men on their mares canter past before willing them to gallop down the steady sloping hill. She smiled at the sight of her brother and his best friend enjoying themselves so much.
A wide smile found its way onto Dream's concentrated face as he raced Sapnap down the hills of the field, gracefully galloping past the shallow pond the cattle would sometimes wade into during the hot summer days. The long grass tickled Dream's knees where his jeans had been ripped from sharp edges of the wood he would carry sometimes, or where it ripped when he was bucked off his sisters gelding, causing him squirm slightly in his saddle, making his beautiful chestnut flea-bitten mare pick up her feet in the long grass more.
When the cattle came into view, Dream reached for the rope that was wrapped around the horn of his saddle, swinging it around the side of his body before bringing it above his head, Sapnap copying his movements.
The cows head's shot up and they started running towards the gate that Drista was managing, making sure they weren't caught by the energetic boys and their mares. Sapnap let out some sort of terrible cattle call, making Dream laugh loudly, quickly turning his attention back to the cows, making sure none of them had hurt themselves or so that none of them had been left behind. Sapnap noticed what he was doing as Dream looked around, keeping his eyes open for any stray cattle. "There's one over by the pond!" He called. Dream nodded, spinning his mare around as Sapnap continued to chase the herd of cattle towards the gate.
Dream smirked victoriously as he spotted the stray cow, luckily it wasn't the bull that kept the herd in account, but the rather young cow that had just left the calf stage. Dream slowed his mare down to a canter and cantered over to the cow, trotting when he came closer. His horse snorted in protest, but Dream kept her from going past the past trot she was already going at.
Dream approached the cow and swung the rope over his neck, despite the young bulls obvious protest. Dream knew that pulling to hard would choke the bull, so instead, he kept his mare at a steady pace so the bull could keep up, tying the end of the rope to the horn of his saddle, collecting the reins in one of his hands, his other hand just resting on his thigh and he trotted up the hill, reaching the gate where Drista stood patiently. Dream smiled at his sister and she smiled back, flashing her semi-crooked teeth. She opened the gate for Dream and the bull, leaving it open for the cows to go out in the morning again.
Dream got off his mare, untying the end of the rope from the horn of his saddle as Drista took his mare inside the barn so she could be untacked, brushed and then turned out with Sapnap's mare.
Dream brought the young bull into the barn with the other cattle where Sapnap was, of course, having a deep and emotional conversation with the rooster. Dream laughed quietly, as to not interrupt his conversation.
Dream put the young bull with the other cattle before calling it a night and heading inside.
