At lunch, Amelia was with her friends who were discussing about prom plans. She was more interested in the words that are in her journal.
"So its agreed, Malcom's pizza before prom?" Her friend, Alyssa, says.
"Yes! Pizza time!" Meghan exclaims, jumping up and down and twirling around.
"What if we get our dresses stained?" Symone says, worried. Amelia rolls her eyes, but no one notices.
"Then eat as carefully as you can. Plus you are gonna have the salad anyways." Meghan points out. Symone glares at her but Meghan just shrugs.
"What do you think Amelia?" Another friend named Cameron asks.
She looks up, surprised that she was in the conversation in the first place, "Well its smart that we are going before prom and not after because well I might be the only one having pizza."
Meghan bursts out laughing as Cameron looks at her confused.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Alyssa asks, putting her hands on her hips in a sassy manner.
"Do I really have to explain it?" Amelia smirks, gesturing to Meghan who makes a circle out of her hand and sticks her finger into the circle repeatedly.
Cameron and Symone gulp because well they have boyfriends while Alyssa glares at her.
"Th-that doesn't mean anything! Lets just talk about the rides there, my dad is renting a limo!" The three girls squeal in delight as Amelia goes back to writing in her journal and Meghan pretends to be interested.
"Now Romeo and Juliet is a heartbreaking story of two lovers fighting to stay together, lets start reading shall we?" The English teacher, Mrs. Dylan, says to the class. The students flip to the beginning of the story, sighs of disinterest fill the room but the teacher ignores it.
Amelia tries not to grumble. She loves books but if she had to choose a least favorite book, Romeo and Juliet would be at the top.
5 minutes into the book and everyone is bored out of their minds. A guy in the back is about to smack the book from his hands until their is a sudden interruption.
"Why isn't their a book in your hands?" Mrs. Dylan asks someone. Everyone turns to a guy in the corner of the room. Romeo and Juliet is put aside and he has a sketchbook in his hands. The guy shrugs and ignores Mrs. Dylan when she tells him to put his book away.
Amelia immediately recognizes the guy from the hallway but is confused because she's never seen him in this class before.
"Adam, if you don't put your sketchbook away I will send you to the principal's office!" She yells. Amelia notices some frightened faces when he looks up at the teacher.
"What's the point?" He starts, his voice is low and dreary.
"Excuse me?"
"I said, what's the point? This story is bullshit and who would want to sacrifice everything just for a person they met in literally one day!" He says.
Amelia tries not to smile and yell preach.
Mrs. Dylan's face is almost red, almost. The room is quiet which is a bit over dramatic in Amelia's opinion.
"Fine, I'll read the damn book." He mutters, putting away his sketchbook. Mrs. Dylan clears her throat and continues reading.
Everyone else slowly grab their books and follow along with Mrs. Dylan.
What the heck? Amelia thinks to herself. Why isn't anyone reacting and did Mrs. Dylan really just let that guy go? I thought she hated it when people talked back.
"I shouldn't analyze it so much." Amelia whispers to herself, receiving an odd look from the guy sitting next to her. She smiles innocently at him and goes back to the book.
"It was so weird! Normally, Mrs. Dylan would explode if someone talked back to her like that." Amelia tells Meghan after school.
"I know why." Meghan says, "I think you're talking about The Beast."
Amelia has a puzzled look on her face, "What do you mean, The Beast?"
Meghan smiles sweetly, "Don't think about it too much Amelia, plus you are gonna question our humanity once I explain it to you."
Amelia frowns and crosses her arms, "Tell me."
Meghan sighs and links her arm with her friend's, "The Beast is that guy in your English class. Since the begining of this year, people have been calling that guy-"
"Adam."
"What?" Meghan asks.
"Adam, that's his name." Amelia says quietly and nudges Meghan to continue.
"Right, Adam, is The Beast. Everyone is scared of him because he's a drug lord and he's in gangs. Some say he's a huge supporter for the KKK."
"That's ridiculous! No one knows him and all of that is probably not true." Amelia protests.
"You never know, anyways don't think about it too much. My mom's here, I should go. Bye!" Meghan hugs Amelia and then runs off, yelling that she loves doughnuts and then getting in the car.
Once Amelia gets home, she throws her backpack to the couch and puts her journal on the kitchen counter.
"Dad! I'm home!" She yells, grabbing a bottle of orange juice and sitting on the counter. Amelia starts to write in her journal for a second until her dad barges into the kitchen.
"There's my favorite daughter!" He exclaims, there are black smudges on his face and he's wearing gloves.
Before Martin, Amelia's father, could hug her, Amelia dodges him and jumps off the counter.
"First of all, I'm your only daughter and second, if you want a hug then clean yourself up." Amelia tells him.
"Aww come on Ams, I rarely get to see you everyday."
Amelia doesn't budge so Martin sighs and pokes her nose, "I've been working on a new project."
"Oh great." Amelia says sarcastically.
"Its good, I'm telling you! Imagine this, walking on ice."
"Already invented dad, its called ice skates." Amelia mutters. Martin grumbles and runs his hand through his hair in distress.
"Don't worry dad, I know you will invent someone original because you're brilliant." Amelia says in encouragement.
"You're right, anyways to the normal dad stuff how was school?"
"Good, also I have one more chapter left for my story but I still need to find an illustrator."
"Why? Are the people at your school not talented enough?" Martin asks.
"And online. No one is good enough for my imagination." Amelia whines.
Martin pats her shoulder, "Honey, not even Leonardo Da Vinci could be able to paint you're vision for this book."
"That's very helpful."
"I know." Martin kisses her forehead and stands up to leave.
"Ugh, just one picture! Its not that hard." Amelia mutters to herself, laying down onto the sofa and putting a pillow to her face.
