14. Inuokko: 𝘀𝗮𝘆 𝗺𝘆 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲.

A/N: Here it is: The next inuokko oneshot I kinda teased in the last one haha. It's a stand-alone tho.
Now, let the angst begin.

Knock. Knock.
"Takana."
"Yes? Come in, Toge. If the door's already ajar, you don't need to knock, didn't I already tell you that? Hey, now, don't pout, I didn't mean it that way..."
"Konbu."
Now Toge was doing a few signs.
"Okay, one second... where did I put it... ah! Here you go", Yuta said and handed Toge a pen and a paper. After a while of him writing on it, he gave it back to Yuta.

"I have a very dangerous mission at a place only reachable by car from here. It's gonna be a curse that's a bit too high ranked for me to handle, actually, but they still made me do it, to see if they can raise my rank as a sorcerer. Which means nobody's gonna be allowed to help me.
To be honest, I think it's also because we're short on personnel, but please don't worry too much.
I will do my best and come back to you.
I love you."

Yuta stared at him with big eyes.
"But... How could I not worry?"
"Tsunamayo."
"Oh come here."
Toge flopped down on the couch next to Yuta and laid his head on his lap.
"How about we watch some movies to relax you for such a big day?"
"Salmon."

In the morning, Yuta woke up alone on the couch. There was a little note left next to him.
"We had to go early, I'm sorry. Ijichi said it's gonna take about 2 days. I'm gonna miss you. Don't worry too much. Love you."
'But I still wanted to ask him if he could...'
Yuta sighed.
He got up and went to the bathroom, freshening himself up, and then hurried to his own mission.

Toge

When the curtain fell down, I took a deep breath. I had prepared a lot more than usual, on my belt were about ten little bottles filled with sore throat relievers and I had practiced combat techniques with Panda and Maki before this more than usual.
Then I finally saw the curse approaching. It looked huge, yet flexible. Plus, as I started to notice now, and to my very discomfort, it was damn fast.
It had only been about 15 minutes when I felt the to the brim with cursed energy filled fist of the highly-ranked curse collide with my stomach and send me flying through the air for the first time.
This was gonna be one hell of a fucking fight.

Hours later

This was it. I could feel my powers draining out of me, my vision had long gotten dangerously blurry, and my throat felt like absolute shit, despite the six bottles of medicine I had already managed to take during the battle.
"Yuta..."

Yuta

Yesterday had been boring as hell without Toge. I wished he was there with me right now, we could cuddle, and I could feel the rising and falling of his chest, just know that he's breathing and doing completely fine.
I was about to take a nap, my mission had left me tired and worn out, but then I heard the sound of a car engine in the yard. I looked out of the window, and I had guessed right, it was Ijichi's car.
I stormed out of the building. I ran towards the car and ripped the door open, only to find a heavily injured Toge lying stretched out in the backseat.

"What the- Toge? Hey, Toge, can you hear me? You awake?"
Yuta gently put his hands under Toge's head.

"I am very sorry for the condition he is in. But he managed to defeat the curse, so now he'll be able to raise his rank", Ijichi said as he got out of the car. "He actually... I'm so proud." I felt my eyes fill with tears, and inside of me, a rough fight between my emotions broke out.

I was proud, happy to have Toge back, but also worried and sad because I feared Toge's condition couldn't be healed anymore, though in the back of my mind, I was actually pretty certain that the reverse cursed technique should be able to erase the damage on Toge's body.
Still I just couldn't bear seeing him like that. It simply felt off.
