You may have been told that seasons are caused by the movement of the earth. That the tilt of the earth's axis determines what season it is in whatever hemisphere of the world you're in. Whatever you have been told, it's all wrong.
My name is Adam Redd, and I am being chased by leaves.It's... A long story, but I think the best place to start is capture the flag.
We were being obliterated. Percy Jackson, one of the chosen seven, somehow managed to bring most of the river to the centre of the woods and he was sending torrents of water straight at us, forcing us to retreat.
Of course this was only a view from afar, cause who would want the new guy in the front line going up against
Percy Jackson and his Poseidonic powers over water. I was stuck on guard-the-flag duty. Usually this means staying absolutely still and waiting for Annabeth Chase to knock you out from behind, and for some reason Annabeth was taking longer than usual. Boredom overtook my anxiousness and my attention was instead directed to the most stunning person I'd ever seen. Sarah Aldaine had been my friend since childhood. We first made our way to camp
half-blood when a cyclops decided we looked like the perfect appetiser. Sarah managed to persuade a tree into strangling the cyclops with its roots which got me pretty freaked out. That's not all, as soon as I started to panic all the plants around me started to go full autumn. A path of flowers appeared out of the ground soon after. We figured that following the flowers was better than following the cyclops so we eventually ended up at camp half-blood screaming "CYCLOPS!" Sarah's mother, the goddess Demeter, claimed her almost straight away. Flowers started to burst up from the ground as if they had always been there as soon Sarah made it past half-blood hill. My father's been around for a while so in my first few weeks here I've figured out that my mom is a greek goddess. Although, she hasn't claimed me yet..."Adam!" Sarah clapped her hands together in front of my face. "Earth to Adam!"
"Huh-what."
"You looked a little zoned out for a second."
"I was just-"
"Thinking about your mom?"
"How do you do it"
Sarah let out a slight chuckle.
"Years of practice," Sarah winked slyly.
"You seen anything yet?" I said, turning my attention back to guard duty.
"Nothing yet," Sarah replied.
A new voice intruded into the conversation from behind. "That's cos you never see me coming," it was Annabeth.
"Not again," I whined.
Then as fast as you could say Hermes, the temperature dropped to the point where the water encircling our flag froze over and frost collected on the plants around us. With a thunderous BOOM! the invisible field surrounding the camp shimmered and the entire environment of camp half-blood was transformed into a frigid forest of ice and snow complete with a frozen Annabeth.
