Vanessa's POV:
I gaped up at the hulking, live volcano in front of us, my words dying in my throat.
"Bloody hell!" Daniel exclaimed, his voice a mix of horror and slight awe.
I swear I couldn't believe what I was seeing. How do you fit a huge, live volcano in a small supermarket?! This had to be some sort of dream, I must've gotten too delirious or something.
A wave of hot air hit my face, shaking me out of my unnerved trance. I hissed, pulling at my collar; it was way too hot in here. What was I expecting when we had a literal volcano in front of us?
We watched as exploding jets of lava trailed across the floor, bright orange and glowing. It crackled as it made its way across the floor. Suddenly, I realised something.
"That lava is coming towards US!" Matt yelled as my eyes widened. "Holy- Matt shut the elevator doors! We have to get out of here!" Lonz screamed at him.
Matt was already pounding at the buttons. The doors snapped shut, and the elevator began to move up.
"Oh thank-" I began in relief when the elevator lurched suddenly, and we grabbed the walls of the elevator to keep our balance. "Crap!"
"What happened?!" I demanded as Daniel hastily pressed all the buttons, trying to get the elevator to move. "Uh guys-?" Lonz murmured in a small voice, making us look at her.
That's when I noticed the smoke starting to gather around my feet.
Matt's POV:
"Wha- What's all this smoke?!" Vanessa shrieked.
"It's the steam from the volcano! It's building up underneath the elevator!" Daniel cried, his back against the elevator wall to keep his balance.
A hissing sound filled the elevator, growing louder and louder by the second. It resembled a high-pitched whistle, the kind a kettle makes when the water in it is boiling.
"The elevator is going to explode then!" I screamed in realisation. On cue, the elevator started shaking. My brain genuinely felt like it was being thrown around in my head.
"We need to hurry!" Daniel yelled, running to the elevator doors before attempting to pry them open. We three followed to help; this hopefully would work. It had to.
"On the count of three! One, two, THREE!" Lonz instructed, and we four tried to pull apart the doors with all our might. The steam continued to flood the elevator, the loud whistling deafening at this point.
Vanessa's POV:
The doors squeaked as they opened slowly, as if hesitant to let us out. "Yes!" I whisper-cried in relief, but everything was far from over.
The elevator was stuck halfway, between the sixth and seventh floor, and there was only a small space for us to get out of. There was no way we could get out at the same time.
"Guys hurry!" Daniel cried, snapping me out of my thoughts. Matt helped Lonz up and she crawled out before reaching back to take the duffel bag with all the stuff we had collected. We couldn't forget THAT.
She held out her hand and I took it, letting her help me out. I heaved a sigh of relief, finally out of that congested space.
With a little help, Matt made it out as well. Daniel was the only one left.
"Come on mate!" Matt prompted, stretching his hand out for him. Daniel took it, letting Matt pull him out of there.
"Finally!" Lonz cheered, relieved. We were finally safe!
Or so we thought.
"Um guys? Maybe we should-" Matt started, but he never got to finish his words.
Matt's POV:
WHOOSH!
The elevator shot up the shaft like a bullet, fuelled by the all the built up steam. With a loud CRASH! the elevator ripped through the roof, shooting up in to the sky.
The force felt like a shockwave, making the floor rumble and shake, causing us to lose our balance and fall to the floor. We would've been fine if it weren't for one small detail.
Daniel was still standing quite close to the elevator shaft.
"WOAH!" he cried as he lost his balance from the force of the shockwave, tumbling back into the dark elevator shaft.
"MATE!" I yelled, dashing forward and grabbing his arm. Lonz rushed after me, grabbing my jacket. Vanessa followed, grabbing Lonz's arm in one hand while grabbing a nearby shelf in the other, stopping us four from falling.
"Merlin's beard!" Vanessa gasped, sweat beading on her forehead as Daniel tilted his head, glancing down at the dark, deep elevator shaft that he nearly fell into. "Bloody hell..." he gulped.
Lonz shifted her grip to my elbow, and with that, we managed to heave ourselves back from the edge.
"That was so close..." Lonz muttered as we all sat on the floor, catching our breath. "Mate- thanks for saving my life again," Daniel said, turning to look at me. "Don't mention it mate, though if it weren't for the girls we both would've fallen," I replied.
"You boys owe us one this time," Vanessa chuckled lightly, Lonz nodding along.
Daniel peeked back at the elevator shaft, looking up at the roof. "Damn, it left a huge hole in the roof," he said, eyes wide. "I don't know how to respond to THAT," Lonz replied. Goodness knows where the elevator went.
"But in any case, we still got all the stuff we needed, didn't we? You guys know what that means, right?" Vanessa questioned.
"We can finally go through the seventh and final floor," I responded, the realisation dawning on all of us.
"We are already in the seventh floor anyway," Lonz added, pointing up at the glowing neon sign above our heads that said: "Seventh Floor."
"But it's so dark...I can't see a thing," Vanessa groaned. It really was, everything was pitch black.
"Stay together guys, we don't wanna get separated," Daniel whispered.
Just then...
CRASH!
"What was that?!"
To be continued...
