Rain poured down into the dismantled test chamber, one that's been forgotten for a little too long.

This chamber, like many more, had been numerously flooded by the constant down pours that became frequent within the passing weeks, this made you guess it was around spring time.

You were assigned to return amongst the old, overgrown and neglected chambers to either retrieve anything of use that might've gotten left behind, or gather scrap for future projects.

In some areas the water had reached your knees, other parts you couldn't even access, you really just had to do the best you could for now.

Unfortunately, there wasn't a lot of to be found after how much these areas had decayed. You'd been at it for nearly four hours and ultimately nothing was found.

However, you did notice a corroded management rail in one of the lesser-destroyed chambers. It had vines growing around it and likely no longer ran anymore. You followed it into the next chamber to continue searching.

The next chamber was spacious, you assumed it would have been even bigger if not for the major overgrowth. You began flipping over small pieces of the fallen ceiling and walls.

Still nothing, although, there was a damaged companion cube that had been left by the exit. Was it really worth hauling that thing back through all those chambers though?

Probably not, you ignored it and continued following the rail for a while longer. It stretched through a small hall with pieces of machinery and eventually stopped near a large opening that was more likely than not created by all of the flooding.

It was a five foot drop outside the chambers and what seemed to be an almost solid ground of tile that laid underneath. The foliage growth was undoubtedly the worst in this area, causing a lot of the walls to cave inward.

The rest of the management rail had collapsed beyond this point, more vines grew upon it. You glanced around a little more before stepping away from the edge and making your way to the next chamber.

For only a moment after you could hear a quiet hum then the abrupt huff of a machine. The lights overhead suddenly flickered off.

You could see a little ways down the hall and back into the main area the where natural sunlight shown through, although, another smaller and dimmer light caught the corner of your eye.

It was emitting from within the ditch. You walked back to where you were once standing, becoming less cautious as the scattered waste crunched underneath your feet.

The light could be seen darting around as if it was reacting to the sudden noise. You leaned towards it from above, earning a surprised gasp.

"Oh! Oh, that couldn't— Is that?—I mean maybe it could be-err, hello? " Rang a voice from below,

You hung slightly forwards, attempting to catch sight of who, or what  was speaking to you. You squinted.

"Oh, I'm saved! They finally sent someone, ohh it's been about time hasn't it? Aha, I knew they hadn't forgotten!"

Something had rolled out into the middle of the floor. Something that had been here for quite some time, it was a core.

There he sat, with vines curled around him and small patches of lichen in his gears. You would have honestly expected him to be miserable or even angry. This whole time he'd been waiting for help, never doubting the day he'd find it, or more specifically, when it would find him.
