━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━You knelt down upon the clovers that had been tangled underneath the grout. Growing between the cracks of tiled floor.
Sitting silently, you admired the spring's fresh foliage, along with a chill to be ignored by sitting in the sunlight.
You ran your hands beneath the flowering weeds, morning dew running off your palm. Peering to a lone clover, you reached for it, noticing it had four leaves.
Curiously leaning in, you went to pluck it from the soil, aware it had a better chance to be preserved knowing these chambers were prone to flooding, perhaps you could press it in a book.
You held a hand underneath it, carefully getting on your feet. For a few seconds you stood there, just inspecting the clover in the sun's natural ray until a shadow rolled in front of it.
You turned your head around, only to meet a familiar flushed-pink gaze.
"Fun fact," The core came to a stop, the rail's connector lightly screeching amongst the rusty metal.
"The chances of finding a four leaf clover is one in ten thousand. That's a pretty uncommon chance."You glanced at him with slight amusement etched upon your face. He looked back with a somewhat smug optic.
You then proceeded to ask what he'd been doing in these parts, explaining that you'd only come down here to avoid the arduous testing.
"Well, I didn't mean to lurk. Thought I'd stop by these old offices while the management rails were still up." The core examined the surroundings for a moment, before bringing his gaze back to you.
You nodded, understanding his curiosity for the lower levels of Aperture Laboratories.
Still holding onto the clover, you began walking to an opening in the wall, exposed framework pouring into the chamber.
The savvy bot followed closely behind.
Below you was a catwalk, you hopped onto it, grabbing the railing for support as it shook from beneath your feet. You turned around to face the core, holding your arms out as an offer to take him along.
He simply shook his head, "You know, I'm really not the adventurous type. Plus, I should get back to work before she finds out. You know how it is."
You did, infact know how it was. It was truly exhausting living under someone else's unfeasible expectations, a daily struggle of working in unpredictable conditions, you didn't even want to think about tomorrow.
Sighing, you showed acknowledgement and began your trek back to the main testing track. You said your goodbyes, but not before a final voice echoed out through the thoughtless void.
"Did you know clovers with four leaves, and often more, are caused by genetic mutation? The most leaves ever found on a clover was eighteen."
It couldn't help but make you grin.
