The next morning came quickly, and Graciella was back at her house. She walked inside and was immediately faced with her mother. "I haven't seen you in a while." Her mother pointed out. The younger girl held back the urge to roll her eyes. "Maybe that's because you never notice me anymore. You're always so involved with yourself—" "Excuse me? You have no right to speak to me like that. I don't know where the hell you've been but you certainly haven't been at the Cameron's house. Why would you even go there if Sarah is missing?" Her mother held up a missing poster with Sarah's face on it.Graciella gulped, needing to come up with an explanation quickly. "She's my best friend, mom. I was trying to find her, but I knew you most likely wouldn't let me because you don't like me 'wandering off.' Am I right or am I right?"
Her mother stood up angrily, stepping towards her. "You know what? You're grounded. I'm not allowing you to leave the house. And if I find out you did leave the house, I'm taking that phone, and you'll be on major house arrest! Get upstairs and don't come out." She yelled. Graciella glared at her, but proceeded up the stairs, slamming the bedroom door behind her and locking it.
The evening approached. Graciella paced back and forth, trying to think of what to do now. Her mother was getting slightly suspicious, so now she couldn't say she was going to Sarah's. Now she couldn't meet up with her friends. Taking out her phone, she texted Sarah, 'My mom found out I wasn't at your house. I'm grounded.'
She sighed, walking up to her window and yanking the curtains open. Just as she did that, she saw a figure in the window in the house next door; the Cameron's house. And in that window was Rafe. Not wanting to be deemed as a stalker, the girl looked away. But slowly her eyes came back to the window and she squinted, trying to identify what his movements meant.
Rafe was seen pulling something out from a bag. Whatever it was had a gold tinge to it and the light from his room reflected off of it. "No," Graciella whispered to herself. "That can't be the gold..."
As Rafe turned to face the window she quickly ducked down. Obviously he couldn't hear her but if he saw her she knew things would go horrible. Pulling out her phone, she quickly texted her friends. 'Rafe's got the gold.' Right away, JJ texted back, 'How do you know? You stalking him?' Graciella rolled her eyes and explained that she was glancing out the window when she unexpectedly saw him pull it out from a bag.
'Try and get it?' John B texted back. Graciella glanced back at the window, thinking of a way she could actually and safely get in there. Deciding that there is nothing to lose, she went and locked her bedroom door, then pried her window opened and sighed. "For the Pogues," she muttered to herself before climbing out the window. She looked up at the Cameron's house, not knowing how to get in. Just then, their front door opened, and out walked Rose and Ward. They headed to the dock and onto their boat.
'Perfect.'
The girl went around the back of the house once the boat began sailing away from the dock, and found the back door opened. The security camera was right above her and thankfully she went right under it. Or that's what she thought happened.
Suddenly one of the doors shut and Rafe appeared, locking the door, and walking up the stairs. Graciella looked around. Nobody was in sight, thankfully, and Wheezie was probably up in her room. 'How the hell am I going to open this door.' she thought to herself, quietly tip-toeing towards the door that Rafe hid something in. There was no backing out of this now, I mean it's not like she had good grades or a major job to lose. If anything, the Cameron's will just hate the LaValle family forever. But that wasn't anything bad, it's not like Graciella liked them anyway.
