The other way around

Thirty one

Athena P.O.V.

We got in the car and Dean drove to our favorite restaurant, we went to more dates and tried other restaurants but this one always felt like our own, well kinda that it is because I bought it, but Dean doesn't know yet. He parked the car and when I was reaching the door, Dean stopped me.

"Wait!" He literally shouted. He got out of the car ran to my side and opened the door for me.

"Why thank you. And they say chivalry is dead." I said. We got inside and went to our booth. We were clearly overdressed to this restaurant, but who cares.

The waiter already knew our orders, so when we got in, she looked at us, gave us a smile and a small nod.

"What are we going to do after?" I asked.

"Beach." He said with a big smile. We both love the beach, it gives us a sense of calmness, just us, the stars, and the sound of waves.

"Do you want a family?" I blurted out.

"What do you mean?"

"You know, get married, kids and a dog, shit like that." I said.

I've been thinking this for a long time, I do want a family with Dean. I don't want anybody else as my husband or the father of my kids.

"Do you think I would be a good father?" He asked.

"Of course." I said quickly.

"What if I turn out like my father?"

"Just the fact that you're afraid of that, it's a sign that you won't."

"I would love to have a family but-"

"But what?"

"It has to be with you." He said.

"We are so cheesy." I said and we laughed.

"Here you go, enjoy." The waitress said, giving us our food.

"I have to tell you something." I said dipping a frie on my milkshake.

"What?"

"I bought this restaurant."

"Really? Why?"

"Because it's our place. I heard that the owner was already trying to close it." I said.

"Are you keeping it the same?"

"Do you want to keep it like this?" I asked.

"Yes."

"Then it will. You'll take care of it."

We kept eating and talking but there was still one thing on my mind, he said he wants a life with me, a family, but does he have in mind that I will stay in the mafia? That our kids will be the next leaders? We were now in the car and Dean stopped in front of the store, he told me to wait and went inside to get us some cold beers.

He came back and drove the rest of the way to the beach. He parked, took the beers, I took our blanket from the backseat and we went to sit in the sand.

"Dean?" I called while opening a can.

"Athena?" He mocked me.

"Remember when you said you wanted a family with me?"

"Yes, why?"

"Well, humm what about the mafia? Do you mind that?"

"I think about it sometimes, I'm afraid of the dangers that come with it, but I think we can raise them in a safe place, we can train them but let them be happy too. I don't want to force them in this life, we will teach them and explain everything when the time is right but it's their choice." He said, and that made me smile.

"See, you'll be an amazing father."

"You changed me, Athena, you changed all my thoughts, my life, you saved me and there are not enough words in the world that I can say to thank you, but I'll do my best to show you how grateful I am until my last breath." He said getting up, he turned to me and got on one knee.

"You mean the world to me, we are young, but I can't wait anymore to call you my wife, I can't wait anymore to start a family with you. I promise I'll try to never fail you, I'll give you the world if you let me, Athena, will you marry me?" He said and opened a small box, showing the most beautiful ring I had ever seen.

"Yes. I thousand times yes." I said and jumped to him, he was still on one knee, so when I jumped him we fell backward.

"I love you so much." I said and kissed him, not even waiting for the reply, I know he feels the same as me, not just he showed me that now, but he makes sure to tell me every day. The ring is perfect, it's not too big and extravagant.

"I love you too." He said and kissed me again.

For a long time, I never thought I would find love, not like this. I'm so happy that I went to that small diner. I'm so happy that my heart chose him with just one look, and I'm so happy that I didn't give up on him.

I always read about this kind of love in books, the love where the boy saves the girl, and they get through problems but they stay together at the end. But this time it was The other way around.

I was the one falling in love first, I was the one saving him, I was the one introducing him to this life, and I couldn't be more happy with how my life turned out to be. I had some really dark moments in it, but Dean is my light, he was the one ending my nightmares.

He's my world.

I already have an idea for another book but I'll write a few chapters before posting it!

I think I'm going to focus a little now on editing my other books!
