AN: You may be wondering what this chapter has to do with the story. Well, it's not super important, but it'll be better if you do read it. Believe me.
Lagoon landed smoothly on the shore of the island, and gave her surroundings a customary glance.
It looked, at first, like any other island, albeit one that was a bit more luxurious than others: the blue waves lapped onto pale yellow sand, which stretched as far as the eye could see, dotted with clusters of palm trees and a couple freshwater pools. Seagulls flapped around, looking plump and proud of themselves. Fish, especially herrings and salmon, were thriving and overabundant in the water near the coast.
But the sandy shore was mostly covered with half-buried clamshells - only clamshells - and a small dragon-made lagoon sprawled over the side of the island, claiming a good chunk of land.
Lagoon gave a small, spiteful smile. She had chosen this island on purpose, and couldn't help rubbing it in every time she visited. As dragonets, Sapphire had always tormented Lagoon whenever they were alone, bragging about how she was older and stronger and would fight their mother to become queen first. But look what happened now? I'm the queen, and everything is mine.
A soft murmur made Lagoon turn around. Her guards were shifting uneasily, squinting at the unnatural amount of clamshells. Of course, they didn't know the true story behind it - how Lagoon's brother Albatross had enchanted a clamshell to bite off all of Sapphire's claws. All they knew was that Sapphire, for some reason, had fled to a deserted island and that Lagoon was visiting her.
Lagoon gave a hiss, and all her guards scrambled into order. "You remember your orders?"
"Yes, Your Majesty," they responded as one.
"Good," Lagoon said, "Remember to stay here and not go anywhere until I tell you to."
"Yes, Your Majesty." How wonderful it felt, Lagoon thought, to be able to order around these dragons.
Lagoon strode a small hut that she knew was hidden behind a particularly dense clump of palms. As she approached, however, a small green dragon darted from the hut, looking worried. He stopped abruptly when he saw her, however.
Lagoon drew her wings up and stood taller. "What's the matter?"
The other dragon - Tidal, Lagoon thought his name was - looked down and mumbled something, nervously twisting a ring on his claws.
"What?"
Tidal looked up, terrified now, and squeaked out in a slightly louder voice, "The - the thing is, Your Majesty, Sapphire, um, she..." he said the rest in a whisper, "she disappeared."
Lagoon froze. "Disappeared? How? What do you mean?" She demanded, her voice growing louder with each word.
Tidal cowered, flinging his wings over his head.
Coward, Lagoon thought, disgusted. "Where's Cod?"
"She's in the hut, Your Majesty."
Lagoon started towards the hut, then looked back at Tidal. He hadn't moved. Annoyed and infuriated, she snapped, "Well, what are you waiting for? Do I need to come over and stamp on your tail for you to move?"
"N-no, Your Majesty," Tidal stammered, going pale and scurrying obediently behind her.
Inside the hut, Lagoon glared at Cod and Tidal - mostly Tidal - while they explained what happened. Or, more accurately, Cod explained while Tidal interrupted with lame excuses whenever he was accused of failure.
