Chapter 7

Jeremy part four

Salashida's choice part three

Siralanda's POV

I watched as he walked away from me, hurt, astonished, and surprised by what I had just done. Why had I said that. Just before they face Zertiave. Why had I said that? Now he will end up getting himself killed! I felt terrible the moment it escaped my lips. And now he hates me....

I turned and ran to my personal quarters and simmered. I was very angry and upset but what was done was done. Suddenly I felt exhausted. So I decided to sleep for a few hours.

When I finally did wake, it was time for Jeremy to learn the Dontavel. The dreaded last resort. I got up and lumbered out to the stands to observe the teaching of the Dontavel.

"Now. The move I am about to teach you," Vorsheen began, "is called the Dontavel. It is a very difficult thing to perform and most of those who were forced to turn to it are no longer with us. The Dontavel is a special move involving the bond between you and your Taljera. If you were to die, Salashida would be able to bring you back by the bond he has. And the fact that he is a Taljera helps because they are very powerful. But. If he were to die, you are not powerful enough to bring him back. The Dontavel allows you to bring him back. But if you perform it incorrectly, either you will both be dead, or only one of you will live. If you live then he will remain dead. If he lives and as planned you die, having performed the Dontavel incorrectly causes the incapability of him being able to bring you back. It is something we do not fully understand, and we are still trying to unlock the mystery behind it. But if performed correctly you will both be saved." he concluded.

"Why do you say it will save both of us if only one of us would be dead?" Jeremy asked.

"Because, in order to save your Taljera, you must sacrifice yourself. And when he comes back the fact that it was the Dontavel that revived him will have created a temporary path between life and death, allowing him to bring you back through that path which he has created by coming back. But because it was done incorrectly, the path either switches you and immediate closes, or never forms because it never brings your Taljera back. Also, if you are not brought back before that path dissipates, he won't be able to save you. Not even through your bond. That Is the consequence of the Dontavel. That, and the fact that it is rarely entirely successful." I told him.

"Why can he not bring me back by the bond?" Jeremy asked curiously.

Again it was me who answered.

"Because your spirit travels through the path he created when coming back and not the one your spirit would have created if you were to die when not performing the Dontavel. It is a trade off, with the advantage of a possible rescue of the one who traded places. But once that path closes, you cannot be brought back, since it is not your spirit path." I remorsefully informed him. "So if the person's Taljera is not as fast as they should be, the path closes, and the person dies. While the Taljera is forced to live on, forever to be tortured by the death of their human, knowing that it was their fault that their human died." I said.

I noticed the start of tears in my eyes and forced them back.

"Yes. It is unfortunate, but not uncommon for that to be the case." Vorsheen stated matter of factly. "Now Jeremy. I must teach you the process of the Dontavel just in case you need to use it. Salashida, it is time for you to form the Knife of Radeon. While he begins that process, I need you to listen carefully to what i say, Jeremy." Vorsheen commanded.

"Yes sir."

"I want you to watch Salashida begin to form this knife. It is important that you do as I tell you." he firmly turned Jeremy towards Salashida and waited and watched intently. "There. Now, do you see that haze before him?"

"I do."

"Good. I need you to focus on it and with your mind envision it as the knife. It is vital that you focus on the haze while you envision the knife. The knife you envision should be what you feel it should be." Vorsheen said sternly while slowly backing up a few paces.

Jeremy began to focus intently on the mist and as he did the mist started quivering and transforming into something solid. Jeremy's consentration seemed to waver, being taken by surprise at the sight of the solidifying mist. The mist seemed to loose what little solidity it had acquired.

"Again." Vorsheen demanded.

Jeremy began to focus again and this time managed to keep his focus as the mist solidified. As it solidified, the features of the knife started coming through. The knife was black, with a red jewel in the hilt, and a guard separating the blade from the handle. A swirling pattern glowed fiercely on the long, extremely sharp, silver blade. As it became even clearer, I noticed gold tracings along the hilt. This knife was clearly sharp enough to slice through bone and deadly enough to kill with a single blow. Just what was required of the Knife of Radeon.

The mist fully solidified and fell to the ground with a thud.

"Go forth and claim your knife Jeremy. This knife was forged by the joint efforts of you and Salashida and it will help you defeat your enemies during battle. And, if the time comes, this is the weapon you will use to take your life while performing the Dontavel. You must also recite the words inscribed on the blade as you take your life. That is how the Dontavel is performed." I said.

"Are the words different for each knife?" Jeremy asked.

"Yes. And there are no two knives alike. The words are in a foreign language, but if it comes to that, when you start, the words will become clear to you." Vorsheen said.

Jeremy looked curiously at the knife, tracing his finger along the pattern etched into the knife.

"Now, if you don't mind, I think I should like to return to my quarters." Vorsheen stated.

"I think I will too." Jeremy seconded.

"I wish to remain out here for a little while longer." Salashida informed Jeremy.

"As do I. It is a cool evening and the weather conditions are perfect for sleeping outside." I murmured.

"Well then, we shall see you two tomorrow. We will be getting up late tomorrow. Let the trainees sleep in as well Siralanda. Sound the morning toll around 9 am. That is as late as I shall permit it. Goodnight Jeremy. Salashida. Siralanda." Vorsheen bid us goodby and walked off along with Jeremy to the sleeping quarters.

'Salashida. I didn't mean what I said earlier today. I was only angry at myself for not being able to remember what it was like to be with Loren anymore. And it is my fault that she is dead. I was to slow in the returning of her spirit. I was foolish. I hesitated and the path closed before I could save her.' I sobbed, speaking directly to him with telepathy.

'It's alright Siralanda. I-I was just a little hurt by what you said. I thought you had an interest in me. I thought that our feelings were mutual. I guess I was mistaken.' he said softly.

'I didn't mean to snap at you like I did. I am sincerely sorry. I hope you will forgive me.' I said hopefully.

'Of course I will forgive you Siralanda.' he said lovingly, staring intently into my eyes.

'Ever since Loren died, you were all I had left to keep me going.' I said

I started walking towards the woods, for the sun was setting and I needed to find a decent bedding for the night. Salashida followed me, flanking my right side as we searched the woods for a decent place to rest.
