Frustrated and confused, Wille gathered his thoughts before leaving the bathroom. The last thing he wanted was to go to a party, but he thought it was probably the best thing to do to go. He didn't want to agree with August, but the idea of blacking out drunk was appealing.
Walking out of the bathroom back into the bustling hall felt suffocating. All he wanted was to be normal, to be invisible to their staring eyes and whispered exchanges. He could hear a distant hum of the choir singing a familiar song, drawing him in. directed by the noise, he found his way to the door of the music room, Simon singing his heart out in a crowd of people "We are bound together, now and forever, and I will never let you go..."
Wille smiled, Simon too focussed on his performance to be able to divert his gaze. Although he knew he shouldn't, he couldn't help but look at Simon, to take in every detail of his face. He missed being able to touch him, being able to have him close, the feeling of his warm breath over his cool skin. His brown eyes dancing across his skin gave Wille goosebumps once, but he just didn't know if he could be brave enough to let that happen again.
He stepped back, still looking at Simon like he was the only one in the room, the only one that mattered. Turning, he retrieved his phone from his pocket, opened it, and pulled up Simon's number. He wanted nothing more than to run in there, take Simon by the hand, and leave that this school forever and never look back. All he could muster however was a cry for help. He typed;
"Simon, come to my window after choir practice, we need to talk. Please."
He knew exactly what he wanted; Simon. He just didn't know how to do it. He needed help, advice, reassurance. He didn't want Simon to have to wait any longer.
Approaching his room, he knew all he could do now was wait. Simon knew what Wille wanted, what he was planning, Wille just needed to see what Simon thought. He knew that Simon was in a really difficult situation; he would have to give up life as he knew it for this, for Wille. In the past, they just ignored it, but now it was obvious something needed to change.
-------------------------
After leaving the notebook with Wille, Simon felt a weight off his chest. He was okay in his mind, knowing that whatever Wille chose, it would all be okay in the end. He walked on, heading towards the choir practice room, hoping in there he could feel normal. Like they could read his mind, he walked in fairly unnoticed. Felice however did notice, smiling at him before returning to a conversation she was in the middle of. He approached some friends in the choir, who seemed happy to see him. The choir master walked in, asking whether everyone had learnt the songs that he had given them before Christmas. Everyone said yes, before getting into their positions.
After practicing some scales and basic harmonies with the different groups, the choir master spoke; "Okay, we are going to start with Think about Things, lets start with the soprano harmony."
As Simon stood there, listening to them learning the harmony for the song. He couldn't help but let his mind wander to Wille; his mind consumed with alternative paths, different ways things could go. Would Wille change his mind, was he not brave enough to leave everything behind? Simon couldn't blame him for this. Or would he leave everything, risk everything?
He was called back to the moment by the choir master asking him if he was okay to sing the melody. He agreed, while others around him smiled at him knowingly. The lyrics seemed to almost mock his situation "You are yet to learn how to speak... We were bound together now and forever and I could never let you go." Simon always found a part of himself in music, but this was just rediculous. He knew Wille would always hold some power over him, no matter how hard he willed to be free.
He waited for everyone to learn their parts, then they sang together. Singing with all his heart, focussed on the present. The feeling of singing with others, loosing himself in the melody.
Here are some versions of the song I think Simon and the choir would be singing. Also, can we just talk about how perfectly the lyrics fit with young royals?!? Anyways, back to the story :) )
After singing that song, going over missed notes and harmonies, the choir master dismissed them. Laughing with his friends in the choir, they made their way to collec their belongings from the side of the room. He unlocked his phone to see if he had missed the bus, he was frozen to read a message from Wille. A short, blunt, demanding message.
Anger flushed his face as he read it over and over. He thought Wille still didn't undertstand. He didn't want to be someone's secret, not allowed to be seen publically together. Stuffing his phone into his pocket, he headed out the door into the corridor.
One side of him wanted to run for the bus, leave Wille alone to think about what he wanted, what he should do. Simon felt angry that Wille couldn't figure this out alone. The other side, however, wanted nothing more than to see what he wanted. To hear it from the horse's mouth, so to speak. Before he could choose, his legs were taking him to the Manor House, and towards Wille's room.
