"How long have you been sneaking out at night?"

The brusque question came out of no where breaking the lengthy hours of waiting in silence that you might at least expected to see Akise to be taken aback at your revelation. Thinking to yourself that he, after all, wouldn't expect for someone to figure it out. However, the boy remained calm in his position in front of you as though he had expected for you, out of all people, to catch up to what he was doing at home.

He situated himself in between two over grown roots protruding out of the lawn, back resting on the smooth slanted tree trunk, his hands crossed behind his head while palms support the back of his neck. His eyes remained shut although you were sure his awake that he heard you.

"Why do you need to know?" Akise mumbles. "Not like it matters."

"It does, what if you got into an accident? Of course we wa–"

"You need to trust me that I can handle myself, Y/N. I wouldn't just put myself into trouble."

You roll your eyes, speaking in a mocking voice. "Yeah, like you haven't done that already."

There was a loud, terrified scream ringing in the air, startling birds resting on trees that they end up fleeing. Your breathing picks up as you averted your attention to where the noise came, finding it unnerving. It was somewhere not far from where you and Akise rest. At first thought you wanted to get the hell away, far from the noise, but as you turn to look at your bestfriend his face appears he was thinking otherwise.

Akise jumps back to his feet, a knowing grin forming on his lips. "That's our cue."

Swiftly covering your face behind your helmet like mask, your reluctance gnawed your conscience as though you don't want to be anywhere near the emplacement of the scream. You followed Akise onward, traversing by tall shrubs and endless trunks that prepended the crawling shadows of dusk.

"Don't believe at what you're about to see, Y/N," said Akise when you spot four stiffened figures standing in the middle of the dirt road. "And don't talk, if you do they'll recognize you.

"We need to run or else we're dead meat too."

"Let me help." Your bestfriend gained their attention at the offer, both of you stepping onto the clearing and bathe yourselves in the sun sets' orange light.

"Akise-kun!"

"Since when?"

Your eyes immediately lands upon the striking pink haired girl close by the boy with a beanie on his head. She was already looking back, making you feel anxious. However, you cannot help but notice how familiar it feels under her intense stare. The last time you ever sense this was when you accompanied Akise in his meeting with other Diary Holders. If your guess is correct, she might be one of them.

She is one of them.

"—I knew you guys would die if I didn't interfere."

Eyes landing on a figure laying on the ground past them, your body almost trembled at the sight, you had to restrain yourself of going over Hinata's bloodied body, you can see one of her forearms ripped out of her joint. Not only that, there were even dogs, numerous of them, their hungry eyes staring back. Akise casts you a hidden look to see if you were still alright. The boy silently praising that you keep what he said in mind.

“If the sun sets, we've got no chance. So what to do...” Akise wonders, standing in between the teenagers. He tilts his head to the boy beside him. “You're trembling. That's pretty cute.”

Your eyes narrows, odd too see when Akise extends the back of his finger and glide it on the cheek of the boy wearing a beige beanie. “Don't worry. I'm your friend.”
