Archer looks up as he hears tiny footsteps pattering towards him on the stone pavement. A young girl runs up to him, her blue dress fluttering behind her. Her dark hair bounces against her back with each step and her blue-grey eyes sparkle with carefree child wonder. She reaches him and stops, breathing heavily.

"Archer!" She calls excitedly.

"Hey Evera." He replies, his hands in his pockets to his grey pants. He flicks a lock of brown hair out of his eyes to see her better.

"Did you hear the news?" She asks, bouncing on her heels.

"What news?" He questions, tilting his head in confusion.

"Oh come on Archer! You've had to have heard this one!" She whines.

"Evera, you know my dad doesn't buy the newspaper." He says annoyed, rolling his eyes. Evera sighs and looks down at her feet, bouncing from stone to stone in a square pattern, her arms outstretched for balance.

"Well this is the biggest news ever! Even bigger than...uh...unicorns!" She exclaims.

"Evera unicorns aren't real." Archer says, taking a few steps back to lean against a building.

"Whatever. The important thing is, the news! You know Christopher Columbus? That crazy dude that begged to be funded to go 'around' the world?" She explains, stopping her hopping and going back over to him.

Of course Archer knew Christopher Columbus. He was his hero! Ever since he heard of what he was doing he had longed to sail the seas too. How awesome would it be? The wind in your hair, the salty smell of the sea, nothing but your ship to keep you company. Archer could think of nothing better. But his family would never approve of him going into the navy. His dad was all about conspiracies. He was all "The newspaper funds government oppression" this and "The navy is a trap to kill off young boys" that. It irked Archer every time he heard it. But how could he possibly be able to sail the seas if he couldn't go in the navy?

"Well," Evera continued, stopping for suspense purposes. She gazed into his mismatched eyes, one of the only people who would be friends with him because of that fact. "He figured out that the land he found, isn't India." She finished. Archer perked up.

"What? How? Then where is he?" He was drawn in now, leaning forward, eyes wide.

"That's the thing. He's not even in Asia! He's in this new place people are calling America." She finished her story with a triumphant cross of her arms. Archer's eyes got even wider, his golden left eye slightly smaller than the other blue one. It was barely noticeable.

"What!" He exclaimed, bringing his hands up to his head in disbelief. "No way!"

"Yeah way." Evera said in a sing-songy voice. "And, guess what?" She whispered..

"What?" Archer asked, intrigued. She leaned in close.

"We should move there when we grow up." She barely whispers. Archer's eyes go wide once again.

"Wh-what? Why?" He answers shakily. He didn't want to move to a new world! He wanted to sail on a ship! Everas face falls and it pulls at his heart strings.
