Chapter 2

Evera looked at him incredulously. "His ship disappeared, no one has heard of or seen him for about three days now."

"He...He's what?" Archer asks, not quite being able to grasp it. Evera's dad was the best sailor he had ever known. From last he'd heard he was about to become a Navy General for Britain. He wouldn't just disappear unless something horrible happened.

"You didn't know? Oh of course you didn't. You were too busy playing pirate!" Evera says, letting out a puff of angry air.

"Oi! No man simply 'plays' pirates as ye seem ta think. Tis one of ta most dangerous jobs a man can have." Seàn says, defending Archer.

Archer was too busy thinking to even register the two's argument. Evera's father was like a second dad to him, always had been. And now he was just...gone? That couldn't be possible, right?

"Where was he going?" Archer says suddenly, catching everyone off guard.

"Uh, eastward. I have his course on me, actually." Evera replies skeptically, her green-blue eyes narrowing.

"Give it to me." Archer says simply, his face hard as he holds out a hand.

"What? Why?! No!" Evera says, taking a step back and holding a small bag she had with her behind her body.

"I'm gonna go find him. Now give me the chart." Archer says, keeping his voice level. Evera stops for a moment and thinks.

"Then I'm coming with you." She says in a final sense, puffing out her chest, making her back straight and tilting up her jaw.

"What?! No! No, you're not. Give me the chart and I'll bring him back in a few months." Archer replies, shaking his outstretched hand.

"Uh, Captain, are you sure...?" One of his crewmates starts from behind him.

"Yes I'm sure. Evera, give me the course." Archer says bluntly.

"Ah! I get it! So you can go on a ridiculous pirating adventure, but I can't, can I? Oh it all makes sense now! You just want glory all for yourself, huh?" The young woman says, feigning a smile.

"No- thats- I didn't- I never said that." Archer stutters, not finding the words.

"Oh sure you didn't, Archer. But you implied it!"

"Archer, me boy, I don't see that much of a problem wit it. Sure the lass is a bit, uh, headstrong, but tis her father we're talkin' 'bout here, she has a right ta save him, herself, no?" Seàn reasons, ignoring the noises of insult Evera makes. Archer turns to him.

"But she's...she's her, Seàn! I can't just, I don't know, have her on my ship. She's one of the two people in this world that were against me pursuing my sailing passion and now you want me to just let her on my ship?!" Archer asks, still ignoring the flabbergasted Evera beside them.

"Wasn't it you that said nobody would be turned away from ta ship, no matter ye past, gender, sexuality nor race? You swore it to be so, made it ye morals. Wouldn't tis be going against that sacred oath?" Seàn says, looking down at the young man. Archer sighs, adjusting the bow around his shoulders

"Seàn, you know I value your council and opinion, you're my Quartermaster. And you're better at making...social...decisions than I am. So, what do you think I should do? Honestly." Archer says, looking up at the man with his mismatched eyes.

"Me boy, if I'm being honest, I think we should let the lass tag along. That is if the crew votes to do tis rescue mission." Seàn answers the boy. Archer takes a deep breath and turns back to Evera.
