'The human realm? What do our folk usually do over there?'

The King sighed as he stroked the young princess's hair with his feathered hand, regretting his decision to talk to her about the endless worlds beyond their own realm.

'We don't visit that place often, as it is deemed dangerous to our kind.'

'Why is that so?'

'Humans. The monsters who wield dangerous weapons to shoot our fellows down from the blue skies.' The King's jade eyes turned black with hidden anger. 'Sometimes they kill our friends. Other times they capture them and imprison them within rusty cages.'

'That's horrible!' The princess held her white feathery wing-like arms up to her mouth as she gasped. 'Why do they do that?!'

'We have no clue.' The King shook his head. 'There's nothing much we could do about them. That's why we try to avoid them in the first place. But some...... Some are just unlucky enough to fall into the world of torture.'

The princess sat deep in thought, her fingers fidgeting a loose feather from her dress.

'Why can't we stop them?' She asked, her eyes glowing with an abnormal determination. 'We have magic! And everyone knows how to control at least one of the four Elements! Didn't you say that the magic of the Wind was the strongest of them all?'

The King's eyes now shone with guilt. 'They're strong, correct.' His gaze fell upon an empty throne just nearby. 'But they're not strong enough, as proven by how your mother's fate was sealed.'

The princess fell silent, her eyes darkening with dread at the memory.

The King sighed once again and shook his head. 'Go to sleep, Reine. Young birdlings like you shouldn't be awake at this time.'

'But- but shouldn't we-'

'Younglings of your age shouldn't even begin to discuss matters relating to fights and potential war!' The King shouted, but his rage died out quickly as he saw the fear in his daughter's eyes. 'Look, all of those realms out there can be cruel, horrifying places. That's why we try to ignore them. They shan't bother us if we don't even think about disturbing them in the first place.'

All young Reine could do at that time was to lightly nod her head.

______

Many years had passed. Reine sat in her bedroom, her hands flipping through the many pages of the book she was reading.

'Enhanced magical arts... Origin of the Winds... Timelines and outer universes...'

An alarm clock rang out somewhere in the pile of books nearby, and Reine nearly sent a tornado flying through her room as she jumped.

'HOLY- OH LORDS I'M LATE!'

Reine snapped her fingers. The books rearranged themselves on the shelves as a backpack came flying towards the Peafowl Princess - and it crashed right into her face.

'Argh!' Reine groaned as she struggled to sling the bag over her shoulder. 'BAD BAG!!! BAD!!!'

Reine shot through the halls of the castle as she struggled to chomp down the toast that was her breakfast. She waved a hasty goodbye to her father as she pushed past the entrance doors.

'Oh no oh no oh no-'

The street was bustling with all the other bird-people who rushed about trying to get to their jobs and schools. Being the Peafowl Princess doesn't exactly help Reine out when it comes to trying to get to her academy in time.

'Excuse me! Sorry! Please move out of the way! GOSH DANG IT-'

After a painful amount of time, Reine finally made it to her academy. A professor with a rather solemn look on his face waited by the entrance.

'Miss Pavolia, I see that you're late again.'

'Sorry! I didn't mean to! First I was reading a little too much and-'

'I understand.' The professor beckoned Reine to follow him. 'We don't have much time left. Everyone in your year has been waiting for you so that we can start the trip to the Room of Realms.'

Blushing slightly due to embarrassment, Reine rushed after the professor to the far end of the academy, muttering silent sorries under her breath as she did so.

No one said anything as Reine and the professor finally arrived in the classroom. Partially because Reine's lateness was practically an ordinary phenomenon in the academy.

'Alright, let's go!' The professor shouted as he ordered everyone to line up outside and follow him. 'We don't have much time left! If we don't make it to the Room of Realms in five minutes, it'll turn back into a dusty old suspiciously-locked broom closet and stay like that until the Head allows you all to go again.'

The students rushed through the hallway and headed for the Room. On the outside, it looked just like any other storage room, but the glow from behind the glass plane indicated whether or not was the Room of Realms currently active.

======

Aaaaaand basically this is were the stupid lazy author aka me gave up due to death of ideas. The original idea was that Reine was trying to save one of her classmates in the Room of Realms but she ends up in the human world due to falling through a portal by accident. I think this was supposed to be associated with the Apocalypse short story from several chapters ago but my tired dumb brain can't commit write properly anymore-

I mean part of me wants to turn the idea used in Apocalypse into a real story so this chapter here would probably still be relevant later on but I'll leave that for future me to decide-
