TEMPORARY

m e a n g i r l s ?

AFTER Gabriel and I parted ways I walked back to my room. It was still somewhat early in the day so there weren't many students wandering the corridors.

"You and Gabriel are serious then. I don't know how you did it but you'll have to tell me"

I looked in the direction where the voice was coming from and there was a girl who I remember having the name of Alexandra, now walking towards me. I had seen her around the school and met her once before at the tennis court. We didn't have any classes together so I was surprised when she stirred up a conversation with me, someone she barely knew. But that's how you make friends, you talk to people you don't know to get to know them. Still, I didn't expect my personal life to be the subject of the conversation and that's the reason why I didn't reply. I was sure my facial
expression showed confusion since it was exactly what I was feeling.

"I don't know what you're talking about?"

"Weren't you two together just now?"

"Who??... Oh me and Gabriel? Yes, we were I guess..." I didn't understand where the conversation was going especially when this was the first time she had directly spoken to me.

"So tell me how you did it"

"I don't know what you want me to tell you" I started walking back to my room and hoped that it would give her a hint that there was nothing to talk about. Even if there was, it's not like I was going to tell her since she wasn't a friend or even someone who I could call an acquaintance.  We simply did not know each other.

"You're telling me that you and Gabriel aren't dating"

"We're just going to the dance together and even if something was going on I don't see how that would be any of your business" I tried to deliver the message in the least passive-aggressive way that I could, since I didn't want to come across as rude and didn't want to burn any bridges so soon into the school year.

"It is my business actually and I hope you keep it that way" her smile dropped and if this wasn't real
life, I would've thought we were in some kind of movie where she was the villain. The difference here is that I wouldn't let her intimidate me.

"I don't appreciate the way you're talking to me and now excuse me but I have somewhere to be"

I kept walking away when she suddenly ran in front of me, making me stop in my tracks once again.

"You think that just because your brother used to be the king here that you came here to replace him? You're wrong there can only be one of us"

She turned around dramatically and started walking back to wherever she came from. I felt like I was in a fever dream because none of what happened made any sense. What scene from mean girls was she trying to recreate? I had no idea.

I walked inside and only Ava was there but this time sitting on her bed watching something on her laptop.

"You won't believe what just happened" she looked up and waited for me to finish "This girl Alexandra just came at me for no reason... I mean she wanted to know if Gabriel and I have a thing going on isn't that crazy"

"Wait wait wait... You mean Alexandra Smith?"

"Yeah her, this was the first time we talked and she was acting like a jealous girlfriend. Do they have a thing that I don't know about"

" I mean she does like Gabriel and everyone in the school knows that, she's not exactly shy about it. But I didn't think she would approach you like that"

"She didn't threaten me but it honestly felt like she did. I mean she accosted me in the middle of a corridor to ask me "how did I do it", how did I do what she's so weird for this"

"Don't worry, she's all talk and no action. Also what were you and Gabe doing that she felt the need to mark her territory"

"Nothing? I mean we were talking about the dance in the library for a while but then we left and I don't think we looked anything like a couple"

"I don't know about that you two do look good together"

"Girl stop" I threw her a pillow and took out my phone

"Did you at least find out what he's going to wear?"

"Oh yeah he said she's going as James Dean"

I got up from my bed and walked to my vanity, starting to take out my box braids since I had them for a while and wanted to change up my look.

"That's hot" wiggling her eyebrows she started helping me take them out. "What are you gonna wear and why are you taking these out"

"I think I'm going as Cher and I'm taking these out because even though I hate having to take care of my hair every single day it's time. Also, this wouldn't work if I want to be Cher right"

"Oh well it's not like you don't have the means to just get in a jet and go get them done"

"There's a problem with that... I don't have a jet"

"Kim there's people that are dying"

I rolled my eyes at her Kim Kardashian reference, and we kept taking out my braids which happened to take longer than any other time I had to do it alone. With Ava, there was always something going on to distract us.
