Kihyun had slept peacefully that night, which didn't happen often. He always thought that nice and good-looking strangers only existed in movies and the books he read.
He spent his early morning thinking about the man who was so concerned about his safety even though he didn't know who Kihyun was. If he overslept in the bus home again, would Hyunwoo come to rescue him again? Does he take that same route everyday, or was it just a coincidence? Would he ever see the other again?
Kihyun pouted as all the questions piled up in his head, making his more important thoughts blurry and seem irrelevant next to the image of the buff, tanned man with nice lips.
Part of the smaller wanted to see Hyunwoo again, he wanted to stop being so alone. Nevertheless, his logical side wanted nothing to do with absolutely anyone who didn't add anything to his career. He was practically married to his job and anything else was a distraction.
And no one ever taught Kihyun anything about letting himself recover both mentally and physically.
He shook his head, trying to get rid of the thoughts he had spent years neglecting.
Rest.
Recovery.
It was all a way to put himself down. Those things were important for someone who had time for them. Kihyun had no time to leave his restaurant alone, and he certainly didn't have time for friends.
He could only be stressed.
That meant he cared, right?
Kihyun left his apartment at the same time he did everyday and took the same bus to the restaurant, opening it and sighing as he was too early for work.
Again.
The man was thr king of pushing himself to the edge as long as things turned out well. But they usually didn't, it wasn't fair to him: He worked so hard and nothing ever worked out.
He took advantage of thr time to clean the kitchen while his employees arrived at the restaurant. He put the pots where they should be and walking inti his office, changing into his chef attire, fixing the cloth as it slid down his shoulder. He needed to check his posture more often.
"Good morning, Boss!" Said Heejin, one of the waitresses as she stepped by his door. Kihyun acknowledged her with a smiled and nodded at her.
That girl was the first ever employee he had. Ever since he had just a small cafeteria, she has been there working alongside him and helping him out. She also helps him calm down neurotic customers and if they don't tip her, Kihyin does.
Heejin is like a sister to him.
A few moments later, the rest of the crew arrived, including some new ones who were trying to get some money for college. Kihyun had been there, so he took them under his wing for the time being.
When the restaurant had official opened for those who wanted to grab some breakfast or just some coffee, Kihyun peeked through the window of his office to check if everything was going smoothly in the kitchen.
The only time of his working day he left his office to help in the kitchen was at lunch, but he felt like he needed to help during breakfast. Kihyun didn't know what it was, but he just knew he had to go out there.
"Chef? Is there anything wrong?" Jong-in, one of the cooks, asked in confusion as he saw his hermit of a boss leave his safe space. "Everything's okay... I just feel experimental today." He hummed as he walked up to the huge fridge, opening it and taking out whtever he felt like and set it on the nearest counter.
The hardworking chef then walked up to the front, calling Heejin over, interrupting her work. But for the better though. "Hi girlie, tell the cutomers there's a special breakfast option that's not in the menu. Chef's recommended." Kihyun winked at the girl as she stared at him in suspicion, he was not the type to improvise at work.
Kihyun started selecting the ingredients for whatever his heart desired to make.
Once he finally had everything he needed for his new creation, he grabbed Jong-in by the wrist and took him to where the ingredients were. The boy was a bit annoyed at first, since he was in charge of looking after the milk for a hot chocolate, but boss' orders were still orders.
"Tell one of the others to check the milk, but it was already hot, so turn it on low." Kihyun dismissed what Jong-in was thinking as he grabbed the bacon and the dough he had made the day before for doughnuts. "Make some toasts with this. French toasts."
Mhm, french toasts with doughnut dough.
Jong-in frowned as his lips curl in some sort of disgust, almost shaking his head at the request, but Kihyun didn't give him time to before clapping his hands twice and walking back to the front, where Heejin was waiting for him. "Table six wants a special."
Kihyun smiled and nodded, scanning for said table, gasping out loud when he saw who it was: Hyunwoo.
The male hopped happily as he ran into the kitchen, practically pushing Jong-in aside. "But I was-" The boy was cut off by Kihyun who smiled from ear to ear as he knead the dough before making the bread as he originally wanted it.
He didn't hate Jong-in. No, he didn't hate anyone in his restaurant, but the boy was still new and he probably wouldn't put as much effort as Kihyun would into the new breakfast idea. Jong-in might be a good cook, but he was probably not good enough to make Hyunwoo want to stop by again.
Kihyun made the toasts and fried some eggs as he crisped the bacon. He then melted cheese on the bread and placed everything on top, decorating it as neatly as possible before taking the plate to the front.
But just as he was about to give the plate to Heejin, he pulled it back. "I'll serve it."
Kihyun walked up to the table where Hyunwoo was at and smiled widely, his knees shaking a little in both nerves and excitement. Was it a coincidence again? "Good afternoon, sir. A special?" Hyunwoo looked up from his coffee and mirrored Kihyun's expression, setting his cup down. "Hey! I didn't know you worked here! And that looks delicious, but I only ordered a sandwich."
What? This was table six. But even worse: Who on earth combines sandwiches with coffee?!
Kihyun's heart broke upon hearing Hyunwoo's words, when he suddenly remembered that they had changed the labels of the tables based on how they were positioned from the counter all the way too the back, from left to right, instead of doing it randomly.
So table number six was the one in front of Hyunwoo's. "I came to the wrong table then.. I'm sorry." Kihyun smiled apologetically and looked down at the plate.
Hyunwoo chuckled and shook his head as Kihyun took the plate to what was actually table six. His heart was disappointed, but his eyes weren't: A buff man with smooth skin and messy blonde hair was sitting at the table, his eyes glued to a game on his phone. Kihyun realized he was staring and shook his head, clearing his throat. "A special for table six?"
The man smiled up at Kihyun, who couldn't help but step back a little from how intimidatingly beautiful his teeth were as well. "Thank you!" The man took the plated and hummed happily at the smell, nodding his head.
Kihyun was so embarrassed, he wanted to crawl into the freezer and never come out again.
Little did he know the stranger not only loved the special breakfast, but something else as well
