"Hey bestie," Thomas said from behind John and his boyfriend cringed.

"Never say that to me again," he dead-panned. "Where's Alex?"

A hand lifted from behind Thomas' hair and John stepped around to see his other boyfriend clinging like a monkey. "Hey John," he mumbled into Thomas' back.

John smiled and took his hand. "Hey little genius," he cooed. "You gonna come out, lemme see that pretty face?"

Thomas made a weird face. "I can feel his blush on my back," he shivered. "You wanna go see John, baby? I'm gonna go grab food." Alex let go and Thomas put him down gently.

When Alex made to latch onto John, the older boy stopped him. "Why are you clinging like this?" he asked gently. "Cause I'm willing to give you a hug, but I won't carry you around all day."

Frowning, Alex looked around to make sure Thomas was gone before turning his gaze to the ground. "If my dad's gonna take me away then I wanna have spent as much time as possible in your arms," he admitted.

John's face softened and he immediately opened his arms. (almost typed arse, what the fuck) "Obligatory hug now," he said softly pulling the short boy into his arms.

Alex sniffled into his chest and John stroked his hair. "You gotta tell Thomas, baby," he said gently.

"Tell me what?" Thomas asked, and Alex stiffened up in the same way as earlier that morning and John tightened his arms around him before he could bolt.

Alex squirmed and kicked at John's shins, trying desperately to get free. "Not here, not now," he sobbed, wriggling.

Smoothing the hair that was starting to stick to Alex's forehead back, John hushed him. "Okay, okay, not here, not now, I got it," he soothed. He rocked them from side to side to calm his boyfriend down. "You wanna go see the others?"

Thomas sent him a furious look, which John matched with an equally cool one. "He doesn't want to tell you right now, but I promise we'll explain everything to you later," he broke.

Tugging at John's hair to get his attention, Alex nodded. "I wanna go see the others," he mumbled against John's neck.

"Course baby," John cooed. "You want Thomas to carry you? Or me?" Alex just clung tighter, not giving John the option of letting go.

"Okay," John allowed, tightening his arms around his boyfriend. Thomas walked beside them as the trio walked to their extremely large friend group. The moment that James saw Alex clinging pathetically to John, he got worried.

"Hey sweetheart," he greeted Alex. "Hey Tom, John," he added as an afterthought. Thomas chuckled at his best friend.

"Hey Jemmy, how's Michael?" he asked. James nodded distractedly, trying to get Alex to look at him.

"Yeah, he's good, what's wrong with Alex?" John burst out laughing and didn't stop until it changed to ugly sobbing.

Peggy rushed over and wrapped her arms around him, rocking from side to side as she whispered soft words in his ear that no one could hear.

Alex looked up at him with a sad expression and pressed a kiss to his cheek. "I'm sorry John," he whispered miserably. "This is all my fault."

Sniffing, John looked at him with fierce adoration in his eyes. "That's bullshit and you know it, Alexander Hamilton," he got out, wiping his nose in his sleeve.

Tears started to form in Alex's eyes and he buried his face into John's neck again. John held him close as he sank to the floor, the rest of their friends hesitating before joining them.

Maria edged closer to Eliza, who quickly wrapped a supportive arm around her girlfriend's waist. Thomas flopped down next to his boyfriends and rested his head in John's lap. John gently stroked his hair and patted the back of Alex's head.

"Hey, Tom?" Alex asked through the silence.

His boyfriend rolled over and looked up at him. "Yeah, Alex? Wassup?" he responded. Alex pulled away from John and looked at Thomas.

"Y'know how you said we could skip class?" he checked. Thomas nodded, confused. "Well, does your offer still stand?" Alex continued.

Eliza gasped and everyone else stared at Alex, stunned into silence. It took Thomas a while to respond. "I'm happy to take the day off to be with you darlin'," Thomas told him. "Are you sure that's what you want though?"

Alex nodded and hid his face back into John's shoulder. Thomas huffed and rolled up onto his feet. John winced as he pushed his knees into the ground.

Nudging Alex, John said, "If you wanna go with Thomas then you'll have to get up baby." Alex stood up and waited.

"Aren't you coming?" he asked with a tremble in his voice.

John looked surprised. "You want me to?" he asked, surprise clear in his voice.

Frowning, Alex nodded. "Of course I do," he answered. "Why would we go without you?"

A smile made its way onto John's face as he stood up and took Alex's hand. "Alright then doll, guess we're bunking school. Can you guys cover for us?" he checked. Angelica nodded at him with a smile.

"Of course we will, just look after Alex, yeah?" she begged.

John nodded and wrapped his arm around Alex's waist, tugging him closer. "As if I wouldn't," he scoffed, squeezing Alex's waist lightly.

Angelica smiled again and waved at them. "See you guys later, then," she dismissed them.

The trio walked away and then Alex squirmed out of John's arm and reached for his phone. He called Philip and asked him to come to pick them up. Philip agreed grudgingly, understanding that Alex probably needed time to process everything and that his boyfriends could help with that.

The eldest Schuyler pulled up outside the school, where Alex, Thomas, and John were waiting. "Get in then," he sighed. The three slid into the back seat, Thomas and John thanking him profusely.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever. Just so we're clear, this isn't going to be a regular thing," he warned them.

Alex glared at his adoptive father. "As if I'd make it one," he scoffed. "I only asked you to come get us because I couldn't focus on my education with everything going on."

Sighing, Philip drove away, knowing his son was right. "Alright, I guess that's justified," he allowed before falling into silence for the rest of the drive home.

Hello! If you're reading this then I'm very sorry for not updating sooner. I've been struggling a lot with my mental health and as a result have been finding it hard to be productive in any way, not just with this.

Staying to a fixed plotline can get dull sometimes, so I may be more likely to update one of my one-shot books (possibly multiple times) before I update this one.

Now that I'm out of lockdown and back at school full time, I also have extracurricular activities that take up four of my five school nights, my homework has increased in bulk and when it comes to the weekend I'm often too emotionally and physically drained to want to write, so please bear with me. The time I find it easiest to write is first thing in the morning before I leave for school, but I often get up only around twenty-five minutes before I'm meant to meet up with my friends to walk, so that doesn't leave a lot of time for writing.

For the time being, this fic will have slow updates, but I promise it will still be updated, just slowly. Until next time.
