She woke up in a hospital, hours or maybe days after the moment she fainted. She couldn't remember exactly.
She was alone, and didn't really feel able to understand what was happening around her. Her mind was still so...confused.Some needles were stuck in her arms but all the nurses refused to talk to her about her physical conditions; she had to wait for the doctor.
That time alone, while she was slowly recovering, gave her the possibility to think about the events in the Roman Baths.
Especially, she wanted to understand the words of her enemy, because the way that man talked about Daniel was...surreal, he was talking about him as if he was still alive! She had never seen that person before, but he knew many, many things about her and about Daniel; too many things maybe. He knew about their careers, about their lives. He had accused her to be Daniel's killer but, at the same time, there was something wrong in his voice while he was speaking, as if he was just pretending, making fun of her.
He never admitted that Daniel was really dead, and even tried to mix up Charlotte's thoughts with his answers. So, what was his plan? Did he want just to scare her?
Or maybe he also wanted to make her understand something, to let her understand the truth a moment before her death.
Surely, he came there with the purpose to kill her...but that was the real problem: he wanted to murder her only because Daniel hated her. Because he thought she was guilty, but he was dead, right?
It seemed like that man was avenging his friend. Also, Charlotte felt disappointed because their conversation didn't help her at all; she just found out that the writings on the wall were a "joke", but what about the car crush happened to David, her old colleague?
Since that accident she had been suspecting that someone from Newcastle was haunting her, or something like that, but what if that person was not just "someone"? What if he was...Daniel?
That simple idea was unacceptable for Charlotte...she had seen him dying right in front of her!But that was the point; he died exactly when she entered the room, he was like "waiting for her". As if he wanted her to see...so she could have become a witness. The witness. No one could have doubted the words of his girlfriend.
Not even the doctors...and so they didn't carry out a post-mortem. The reason of his death was obvious...
And what about his dead body? Almost no one saw it, and only his parents attended the funeral. They refused to invite her.
So, after all, there were...there were some possibilities that he was still alive. He wanted to disappear, probably, to end his life as a cop and start a new one as a criminal.
In that way, he could have worked breaking all laws.
However, those were just her ideas. There was nothing sure about it.There was no other evidence that Daniel had turned into a criminal, so maybe she was wrong... Maybe.
At that very moment she looked at her arm, and saw that a weird liquid was about to come in her veins.
The name of that substance was written near the needle, so she understood that it was not something to cure her...it was a kind of tranquilizer.
They didn't want to let her leave. As soon as possible she extracted the needles and then she jumped out of the bed.
She didn't want to ask for help, she just needed to run away from that place immediately. She started to move slowly in the corridors, but some nurses immediately stopped her, informing Charlotte that she could have left the hospital only with a written permission signed by the police. Apparently, what happened in the Roman Baths was under investigation; she was under investigation, and wasn't allowed to leave the hospital at least for a few days.
