She sighed. Finally, he was admitting his plan.

- And that's why you came to Bath... - she said.
- Right, I came here...to kill you – he smiled – I know you would have already understood it. You've always been a clever girl... -

This time Charlotte didn't say anything; she was just too busy looking for a way to escape from that place as soon as possible.
She had even thought about the possibility to dive into the river, but it was too far away from her. She could have run... but Daniel was faster than Charlotte and he would have stopped her before reaching the waterway.

That situation was really awful. Awful.

- So – she said after a while, since she hadn't found a way out – you were also the author of the writings on the wall... -
- Yes, of course. –
- And the hit-and-run driver who... -
- Yes... -
- And you sent that man in the Roman... -
- Yes, yes, yes – he interrupted her, and suddenly Daniel looked annoyed, almost bored.

He didn't want to waste more time.
- I'm sorry, darling – he said – but you can't hope to be saved, not even if we talk all night long...-

Charlotte seemed confused.
- Oh, you haven't heard yet, for sure you haven't... - he explained – It happened right after you left the hospital... There was an explosion at the police station, you know, nothing serious, but it's something that, I think, will keep all the cops busy for many, many hours. They won't have time for you. –

She didn't answer, although his words had hurt her.
- Have you understood, my darling? – he insisted – no one will come...not even Mark Williams, your Mark Williams – Daniel smiled again but this time there was something different in his eyes. He seemed almost...sad. He wanted to look sad, as if it was just another stupid way to laugh about her.

Once again she didn't reply and, actually, she started to be annoyed as well.
- You said you came here to kill me – she screamed – Don't waste your time, then – She provoked him. And Daniel suddenly looked angrier than ever.

He walked towards her, almost running, and now that they were so close, Charlotte had the chance to punch him... But she didn't.

For some reason she couldn't hurt him. Maybe because, even if he had turned into a criminal, she wasn't able to completely forget their past lives together; she didn't love him anymore...but didn't hate him either.

Daniel understood that and looked at her with a pleased smile.
- Ah, my darling – he whispered - Love is dangerous, isn't it? –
Charlotte didn't say anything, but almost wanted to cry.

Her feelings were making her so... helpless, confused, weak.

Charlotte stood motionless in front of him, and Daniel took advantage of the situation.
He walked behind her and "hugged her", blocking both her arms and her legs with one single movement. She tried to free herself but he punched her in the stomach, and it was so hard that she even stopped breathing for a few seconds.

He left her and, looking into her eyes, he spoke again.
- It's so unfair... - he told her, while Charlotte was lying on the ground, at his feet – but I have to kill you. –

Then, he kneeled down, close to her.
- You're not, not obliged to... - she tried to say something but was still too weak to speak.

Immediately, he put a hand on her mouth – Sssh, don't try to make me change my mind. You can't. –

Daniel sighed and then, from his pocket, he pulled out a gun.
- So, goodnight. Goodnight my darling.
He was ready to shoot.
