They say that it's not a stranger who will stab you in the back, but the one standing next to you- Angelina was the perfect example.

Antonio waited until Alessia got into the car before pressing the button to the highest floor.

He had no inclination to go back upstairs and talk to that woman, but he had to; otherwise, within a few hours, the whole world would know about his relationship with Alessia.

He knew that would be a problem for Alessia and her problem was his too. Eventually, it was her who would be the one to suffer the repercussions of it, from her family, as well as the famiglia, and the public.

As soon as the lift door opened, he saw his mother reaching for the folder on the table, but she pulled her hand away when she noticed him.

A long time ago, she lost the right to walk into his place unannounced, but no one had the right to search his documents.

"I can't believe you." That was the first thing she uttered. Not a greeting, not that he expected one considering how self-centred she was, but the beginning of an accusation.

He sat down on the couch. "What can't you believe?" he asked, hoping to get it over with more quickly.

"Tell me you're using her for what she is, and we won't have a problem."

"And what do you think she is?" he inquired calmly, but the warning undertone and the look in his eyes were clear, telling Angelina that she was much more to him.

Angelina chose to open her son's eyes first with facts before she would untie him from the girl with derogatory words.

"You have worked for years for your place in the line, you made no mistakes, you gave up your childhood to gain so much respect at your age, Enrico. You need a woman by your side to help that.

"What you don't need, Enrico is- Her picture has gone around the world, there's no one who hasn't seen it, it's an embarrassment.

"And when she's by your side, your judgment is going to be questioned."

She walked back and forth in her dark brown high heels.

"I won't allow it. Have as much fun with her as you want, but I refuse to give this girl my surname so she can drag it through the mud, just like Ricardo's."

Antonio was not sure if he had heard that correctly. "Your family name?"

"Our," she corrected herself.

"My father's name," he corrected her and gave her a new thought.

"Speaking of your father, he and I may never see eye to eye, but you know very well he will never accept a whore-" Antonio stood up. He knew she wouldn't find a way around that word, but this was the perfect way for him to put her in her place.
