pastel tees and pretty smiles,
that's what he was known for
with heart on his sleeves and shine in his brown eyes,
he was oblivious of the darkness crawling up his shadowsno one made him aware
they were busy fighting for their own light
and soon the darkness reached himit crept up his legs and wrists
slowly and sneakily enveloping him
his heart got tainted and the pastels turned to obsidianhis lips no longer adorned a smile instead
a frown carrying the weight of his despair
he concealed his darkness with the long sleeves he wore
while trying to retain the last untainted pieces of his heartno longer his brown eyes shined
and no longer he wore pretty smilesr u n a h e m

'Oblivion is a bliss' and it's true in so many ways. 'Tainted' is a poem based on this theme only, it reflects the naivety and innocence of an individual before he/she/they become aware of the eyes of the others and the second voice in their subconscious. It takes account of both the situation before and after an individual's consciousness and how it brings changes in them.
