I wake up to my phone ringing loudly in my ear. I reach over, grabbing it and rubbing the sleep away from my eyes, seeing it's my dad.

As I realize where I am, I'm at Jack's.

Shit.

The screen says 5 missed calls as I hurry and call him back.

"Hello?" He answers after 1 ring, not even.
"Hi, sorry I just woke up."
"I see, where are you?" He sternly asks.
"I uhh..accidentally fell asleep at Jack's.." I trail off.
"Accidentally?"
"Yes. I swear."
"That's what every teenager says." He huffs.
"I was in high school too kiddo."
"I know. You know me, I'm not that kind of kid, I don't do bad stuff dad you know this." I explain.
"Okay, I'll nail that kid with questions and we'll see after." He jokingly says;
I hope.
"Okay, okay." I laugh.
"But get home."
"Can I chill here for a little longer? An hour maybe? His parents are home." I beg.
"Yea whatever, but only because I love you."
"Thanks! I love you! I won't do anything bad which I didn't before, love you! Bye." I smile and hang up the phone.

Ever since my mom being gone, he's babied me. I always get out of trouble with barely an argument, it's great.

I look over to see Jack lying down under the covers.

"Babe." I whisper, shaking his shoulder.
"Mbmbhh...." He mumbles.
"Wakey wakey." I slowly turn him towards me.
"Mmmm." He mumbles again.

I huff and lay back down under the covers, nuzzling my head into his chest.

I feel a swift kiss on my forehead as I look up to see him smiling with his eyes still shut.

"What?" I wine.
"Nothing." He quietly mumbles, still smiling.

...

I wake up to Jack slamming the door.

"Jack?" I yell out.
Nothing.

I get up, opening his door, venturing out into the hallway and down the stairs.

"Hi!" His mom smiles.
"Where did Jack go?"
"He left. I thought you left early." She says with confusion.
"Yea, I'm not sure why he left."
"Better go catch him." She half smiles as I pull my boots on and run out the door.

"Jack!" I yell as I see him throwing a black little box on the cement.
"What are you doing?" I run up to him, putting my hand on his shoulder.
"Helping." He steps on the black box, crushing it into a million pieces as he turns his foot side to side.
"What is that?" He pushes my hand off his shoulder.
"Babe? What's going on?" I ask.
"Why don't you ask your little boyfriend." He huffs.
"What the hell are you talking about?"
"I don't know, but Alex sure seems to know." He squishes the box more.
"What the hell! I don't even barely know Alex! Are you still bringing that up?" I yell.
"Yes and he even had the audacity to text you." He ends the tantrum with a swift kick of the remains.
"So! What was that anyways?" I ask, looking at the ground.
"A promise ring."
"A wh-"
"Yep but it's useless now." He walks towards his house as the pool of tears fills at the brim of my eyes.

"Fine. It's over I guess." I quietly say as the tears pour.

He turns around to see me crying.

"Kae."
"Nope. Don't call me that. I guess I'm not worth a fucking promise ring so it's over. Go cry about a simple text message." I walk down the sidewalk towards my house, trying to make it there as fast as I can.

Pathetic.

...
