"Adam?" Olivia called to her boyfriend, pushing the door to her apartment open and slipping inside. She was met with silence. She dragged the several bags of groceries in through the door and stumbled into the kitchen where she found Adam sat at the kitchen counter.
"Babe, have you seen my phone anywhere?" Olivia asked him, setting the groceries on the countertop.
"Yes," Adam responded emotionlessly, pulling her phone out of his pocket and slamming it onto the counter, the loud sound causing Olivia to jump. "I knew you were still fucking him."
"What?" Olivia barely managed a whisper. "Adam, I didn't-"
"Don't even fucking try, Olivia. I read your texts. You slept with him last night," Adam cut her off angrily, standing up from his seat at the counter and towering over her. She could see the rage building in his eyes as he slowly walked towards her.
"Adam, you don't understand," Olivia tried to explain. "I slept at his apartment but I swear, nothing happened."
"Bullshit!" Adam's voice boomed through the apartment. His arm swiped across the countertop as he yelled, knocking glasses and groceries off the table. Olivia yelped when several water glasses shattered on the floor.
"I promise you, it's not what you think," Olivia's voice was soft as she tried to talk him down, but he only grew angrier. Olivia held her hands out in front of her in an attempt to keep some distance between herself and Adam.
"He just couldn't keep his hands off you, I knew this was going to happen," Adam growled furiously, his fists balled up at his sides. "After everything I fucking did for you, Olivia." Adam had her backed up against the wall now, and she desperately wished she could disappear into it.
"Adam," Olivia's voice cracked, her eyes welling up with tears. "I love you," she whispered, hoping to calm him down. His fists unclenched quickly, and his fingers were wrapped around Olivia's throat in seconds, squeezing tightly. Olivia's eyes were wide as her small hands tried to pry his hands away from her throat. She could've sworn she felt her feet lift off the ground as her vision went black.
Olivia jolted awake suddenly, her breathing heavy and body burning hot. She rapidly looked around the room, sighing heavily with relief when she realized she was safe in Joshua's bedroom, Joshua sleeping soundly beside her with his arm wrapped tightly around her waist. She managed to wriggle out of his grasp and snuck into the kitchen to make herself a cup of tea. She stepped outside onto Joshua's apartment balcony and settled herself down on the outdoor couch. The air was chilly and Olivia wrapped her cardigan tightly around her shivering body, but somehow, the cold air was a comfort to her. The remainder of her tea had gone cold when the balcony door slid open, Joshua slipping through the gap.
"Baby, are you okay?" He asked her through a yawn, rubbing his eyes sleepily.
"I am," she smiled up at him. "I didn't wake you, did I?"
"Not really," he chuckled, sitting down next to her and wrapping his arm around her shoulders. "I woke up cold though, probably because I didn't have you clinging to me like a koala the way you always do when you sleep." Olivia slapped him on the chest for teasing her, but couldn't help herself from giggling along with him.
"Why are you out here?" Joshua asked.
"I had a bad dream," she sighed. "I wanted to clear my head."
"Do you want to talk about it?"
"It was about Adam," she whispered. She felt Joshua's body tense up at the mention of his name, and she immediately wrapped her arms tighter around his torso.
"I want to kill him," Joshua said.
"I know you do, baby," Olivia sighed, leaning up to press a kiss to his jaw in an attempt to relax him.
"I know I already asked you this, but are you okay?" Joshua asked his initial question once again.
"I am okay, especially with you here," Olivia told him, earning a smile from the curly-haired boy. He reached his hand to her chin, tilting her face up towards his so he could lean down and kiss her lips. "You don't need to worry about me," she whispered against his lips.
"If I don't worry about you, then what will I worry about?"
"Your less than mediocre piano skills, probably," she teased him, a smile playing on her lips.
"Oh, now you've really done it," Joshua stood up and threw her over his shoulder, a giggle erupting from her lips.
"Josh!" She squealed as he carried her back inside the apartment. "Put me down!" He carried her into the living room and settled her down on the couch, hovering over here before pressing his lips to hers. She smiled into the kiss, wrapping her arms around his neck and threading her fingers through his hair, tugging slightly.
"I love you," he murmured against her lips and Olivia's hand moved to caress his cheek.
"I love you more."
