    Chapter Six

༻﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡༺

For a murderous psychopath, Sangwoo treated Bum pretty well. Ok, pretty well is an understatement. Sangwoo  worshiped  her darling Bum-ie. She promised that she would get Bum anything she wanted- electronics, books, games, movies, clothes, "toys" (Sangwoo winked and Bum blushed as red as a tomato at that), but what Bum wanted most was freedom, even if she was being treated better here than she had been her entire life. She saw what horrible things Sangwoo could do. She promised she wouldn't hurt her, but still.... Bum just couldn't relax.

For the first few days, she often had nightmares of Sangwoo turning against her, snarling out expletives and hateful words. "I never liked you! You're a filthy whore!", "Fucking ugly faggot.", and worst of all, "I'll fucking kill you. I'll rip you apart, you cunt." Sangwoo assured Bum those were just nightmares and that would never ever happen, but Bum saw what she could do. She had heard the nightmarish screams and the maniacal laughter. She had seen manicured hands steeped in blood, and the accompanying slasher smile. How was it possible that the gentle hands that caressed Bum were the same hands that had slaughtered who knows how many men?   How was it possible that the honey sweet voice that cooed praises at "her darling Bum-ie" also laughed at the suffering of dying men? She was a paradox, and Bum didn't understand her one bit.

"Bum-ie sweetie, you've hardly touched your food." A soft voice whispered in Bum's ear, breaking the thoughtful stupor Bum was in.
"Ah! I-I'm sorry, Sangwoo." Bum replied quickly, not wanting to anger the younger woman.
"Sweetheart, I'm not mad. But is my food that bad?" Sangwoo pouted. She picked up the bowl of now cold stew, tsked at how little Bum ate, and placed it in the sink.
"N-No, of course not! It's very good, I'm just not hungry." Bum looked down at her lap and twiddled her thumbs, embarrassed.
Sangwoo sighed. "You're never hungry. If there's something bothering you, just tell me. Miscommunication is one of the leading causes of breakups. Though we'll never break up. Cuz we're in love!" She gave a short, slightly delusional laugh.

Bum didn't respond. She wasn't in love with Sangwoo. Sure, Sangwoo was attractive as hell, and could be so sweet sometimes. But that sweetness wasn't her real personality. She was a cruel murderer who didn't care about human life, but Bum was an exception. Sometimes Bum closed her eyes and wondered what it would be like to be free of Sangwoo. Bum never had the best life. Even when she moved away from her uncle, she was still poor as dirt, and couldn't afford luxuries like chocolate or nice clothes. But still, she at least had freedom. She could leave the house without worrying about having a drunk Uncle waiting for her at home. She could spend hours at the library reading books, escaping to a different world where everything was exciting and fun. She could do (almost) whatever she wanted.

With Sangwoo, she couldn't do that. It was the opposite of Uncle's treatment- she was given good food everyday, slept in a warm bed, and got everything she asked for (though she didn't ask for much). But just like when Bum was living with her Uncle, she was a prisoner. She had no freedom. She was showered with love instead of hate, but she was still trapped all the same. A bird in a fancy golden cage.

"Sangwoo..." Bum started, voice soft and hesitant "How... how long are you planning on... keeping me here?" She asked, tense with anticipation.
"Eh?" Sangwoo turned around to stare at Bum with raised eyebrows and wide eyes. "It should be obvious, Bum-ie. You'll stay with me forever. Til the end of time." She responded, with what she probably thought was a comforting smile on her face.
"Am... am I allowed to go outside?" Bum felt a bead of sweat drip down her temple.
"No. You'd try to escape." Sangwoo pouted. "You don't understand our love yet. So until you do, I have to keep you here."
"I... I won't try to escape!" Bum protested feebly. But Sangwoo sighed and shook her head.
"I love you Bum, but you're a terrible liar." She chuckled. She walked over to Bum and stroked her cheek lovingly with thumb. It took everything in Bum not to flinch away.  Sangwoo, however, noticed the look of fear in Bum's eyes and frowned. "Why are you afraid of me, Baby?"

A lot of reasons, actually. Bum gulped and looked away, but Sangwoo grabbed her chin and forced her to look at her. "Tell me, Bum-ie."
"I wanna go home..." Bum mumbled. Sangwoo looked honestly hurt.
"B-But I treat you so much better here!!" Sangwoo insisted. "You can get whatever you want here. Just ask and I'll give it to you! I'll treat you like a queen- no, a goddess! You're everything to me Bum. I don't understand why you want to leave me!" She sounded on the edge of hysterics.
Bum recognized the danger in Sangwoo's voice. "I...I just..." She gulped thickly. "I just want to live my own life! Even if I live in a shitty apartment and can't afford anything, I'm free. I'm not trapped like I was when I was living with my Uncle. ...I wasn't trapped like I am living with you." Her voice was barely a whisper on her last sentence, but unfortunately for her Sangwoo had excellent hearing and heard her.

Sangwoo's pretty face transformed into an angry scowl. "Trapped? You're not trapped!! We're living together, yes, but it's out of love!! You just don't know it yet, but you love me and I love you the same. Try to see it from my point of view. I'm protecting you from the evil world! You don't deserve to suffer anymore, Bum!!" Sangwoo shouted, then surged forward and pressed her lips against her "love" in a desperate kiss.

"No!!!" Bum cried, and pushed Sangwoo away. "No! I'm not in love with you! Just because you treat me well doesn't mean that I automatically love you back! You're crazy!!" Bum only realized what a grave mistake she made as Sangwoo's face darkened and twisted into a enraged grimace. Bum immediately started backing away, and began hyperventilating as she bumped into the wall. She was trapped.

"I'm... I'm not... crazy." Sangwoo said slowly, advancing towards Bum, gait slow like a lioness approaching a wounded gazelle. "I'm not crazy!" She repeated, voice louder this time. "You're wrong!!" She was full on shouting now, and Bum panted harder the closer her kidnapper got. "I love you!! It's true love!! Why can't you see that? Why can't you see that I love you, Bum?!" Her voice cracked at the end. Sangwoo trapped Bum against the wall, and before she could stop herself, had her hands wrapped around Bum's skinny neck. She didn't even comprehend what she was doing till Bum scratched at her hands, nails drawing blood. Sangwoo's eyes widened, and she immediately let go of Bum. Bum dropped to the ground, wheezing and coughing and crying. She didn't even look at Sangwoo as she curled up into a ball and sobbed loudly.

"B-Bum, I'm so sorry... I didn't know what I was doing and I—" "GO AWAY!!!" Sangwoo's shaky apology was cut off by Bum's fierce scream.

And for once, Sangwoo listened, and walked away warily, watching Bum's trembling small form over her shoulder till she turned a corner and disappeared from her sight.
