Chapter 8: Smoke

It's 3:56 in the afternoon when Stuart decided to take a walk, his mum told him to get some fresh air "You've been looking at your phone for too long Stu." Stuart remembers, she was right though. Stuart was heading to the local park and he was looking for someone. 

Stuart sat down on a bench and looked around, he flinched when someone patted his back. It was Paula! "PAULA!" He said out loud by mistake. Paula looked at him, surprised from the volume of his voice, she giggled and sat beside him, he placed his arms at the back of her. Paula placed her purse on her lap and took out an almost empty box of cigarettes, there were 4 left, she took 2 and handed Stuart the other one. Stuart however looked at it confused and then looked at her. About to lit hers, she looked back and in a few seconds she realized "O-oh, right you don't smoke! Sorry." She put the stick back in the box and placed it back in her purse again, she hesitated to light her cigarette but she lit it anyway, looking away feeling awkward. Since they dated, both never seen each other smoke before so this is a bit of a surprise for Stuart, he looked at her, stared at her, in his eyes she was beautiful. As he inhaled the smoke, he slightly coughed but somehow liked it. Paula noticed his cough and right away swayed her hand, with the cigarette between her index and middle finger, as far away from stuart, he shaked his hand at her "No- no, it's okay." He paused "I kinda.. liked.. it." He looked down feeling a lil bit of regret, bit flustered too.

She looked at him wide eyed, surprised. She placed her stick between her lips and took the other one for him. "Remember to just breathe, just inhale and exhale. You'll get used to it if you want to continue to." She smiled, he took it and placed it in his mouth, she lit it up for him and he prepared himself to suck it up, it failed miserably when he accidentally sucked the stick instead of the smoke, full minute of coughing and Paula laughed, he smiled at her laugh while trying to make himself stop coughing, he chuckled at his mistake, feeling bad about the wasted stick though. "I guess this isn't for you yet sweetie" she said to him while patting his back. She gave him a peck on the cheek and leaned over his shoulder, enjoying the peaceful time in the park. Stuart learned something new, his girlfriend smokes! That doesn't bother him, secondhand is enough for him! The warmth of her body made him relax as well and leaned his head over hers.

Hours of catching up and joking around, the two went out for lunch.
