Freddie's POV

"Yo! Tell Zeus I need to holla at Neveah. It's important." I said through the metal bars.

The guard ignores me and continues to walk out of the stables to join the others. I frustratedly sighed and walked back to my corner and took a seat on the ground. I went to go tug on my necklace out of habit and got mad all over again when I realized it wasn't there. The guard that took it was still parading around in it, teasing me every time he walked past me. I made a mental note that as soon I escape, he was going to be the first on my list.

I didn't pray much these days. Opal always said it doesn't hurt to pray when you find yourself in tough situations. So, I sat there and prayed in silence.

"Are you hungry?" A man's voice asks me. I look up and it was Mateo standing on the other side of the gate. I hadn't seen him since I first arrived with Violet.

"What do you think?" I answered. "Ya'll been keeping me in here with barely food and water and got me pissing and squatting in a corner to shit."

He slides a wrapped sandwich and a small bottle of water through the bars. Both landed on the ground in front of me. I eagerly scoop them up in my hands. The sandwich was made with ham and cheese. My least favorite and the water was warm.

I unwrapped the sandwich and began stuffing my face, Mateo watched me in silence.

"Can I help you?" I asked him with a mouth full of food.

"Why do you need to talk to Neveah?"

Swallowing, "Why do you care?"

"I don't. I'm just wondering why you need to talk to her. She's hasn't been in any rush to talk to you. If anything, she's been living it up like a princess."

Don't believe him.

He's trying to get in your head.

"You're lying." I gritted my teeth.

"Lying? And what will gain from that?" he then lowers his tone, "I honestly came down here to thank you."

"Thank me for what?" My tone never changed.

He looks away, "For doing something that I should've been done years ago."

"Are you referring to killing Juelz?"

He didn't answer.

Smart.

He taps on the bars and says, "Enjoy your sandwich, kid. I'll see you around." He turns on his feet and starts to walk away.

"Wait!" I placed the sandwich next to me then stood up. "Can you deliver a message to Neveah?" I requested walking up to the bars.

He turns back and faces me.

"Tell her that I'm sorry that I got her, and Athena mixed up in all of this mess and for not listening to her. She was right about everything, and I was too much of a stubborn asshole to listen."

There was more that I wanted to say but I couldn't get the words out.

"That some real shit." He comments with a nod. "It takes a real man to be accountable for his actions. I think I might have a way for you to tell her yourself."

"Really? Don't bullshit me." The last thing I wanted to do was get my hopes up for nothing.

"I'm not bullshittin' you." Mateo brings his fingers to his mouth and whistles. Two guards emerge in the doorway and began walking in our direction. He instructs them to take me down by the pier in ten minutes. He will be there waiting with Neveah.
