8:15 am | Opal's Hideout
Yolanda Turner's POV

"Fuuuuuuuck..." I groaned in pain. It felt like a toddler kicked me upside my head. My eyesight was fuzzy and took a moment for them to adjust to the brightness of the room. Did last night really happen? I thought as I sat up on the bed. I peeled the sheet off me and gathered myself.

It had to, I'm not sitting in my bed and this is not my room.

Knock...knock...knock...

Rubbing the sleep out of my eyes, "Come in."

The door opens.

Opal peeks her head inside, "Oh good, you're awake." She smiles.

At that moment, I buried my face inside my lap.

"Everything okay?" Opal asks with concern.

"Last night really did happen," I said out loud. "Ughhhh!"

"It sure did, Buttercup. Your face is all over the news. Welcome to the club." She praised it like it was a good thing.

I started regretting the last 24 hours and that bottle of wine I drank. Opal stepped fully into the room. She was dressed in an all-white sundress with spaghetti straps, her locs were covered by a matching head wrap. Her ears, neck, and wrist dazzled in gold jewelry and stones.

How can she look so good, so early in the morning?

Opal takes a seat beside me and says, "Everything is going to be alright."

I quickly disagreed with her. I am finished as a detective or anything regarding law enforcement. There was no way that I could go back. I willingly helped a cop killer escape from police custody. The rumors that I heard about my former colleagues, beating cop killers ran across my mind. I could only imagine what they would do to me. Many of them didn't like me because I was working in a dominant male career.

Opal places her hand on my lap, "Get dressed and meet us downstairs for breakfast. You need some food in you."

            "I don't have any clothes."

She stands up, "I'll have Lynn come by and drop off some clothes."

            "The lady from last night?"

Opal nods.

"Thank you."

"No problem. Us criminals gotta stick together." She winks and then walks out of the room.

Kareem's POV

I sat at the long dining table waiting for Opal and Yolanda to arrive. My adrenaline was down, and I was starting to feel pain from the car accident all over again.

"You alright, son?" Opal appears out of nowhere dressed in all white.

"If you have some pain killers, I'll be alright."

"I'm sure there's something in this house," Opal calls for one of the housekeepers and requests that she find some ibuprofen for me. I needed something stronger but at this time, beggars can't be choosers.

"Is Yolanda awake?" I ask, looking around.

"Yeah, she is coming to terms with her actions. Poor thing."
