hi wanna see something my english teacher held us all at gunpoint to do?

its a stupid "narrative" about putting yourself in the great fire and idk man i was proud of it. the ending is kinda lazy bcs i didnt get to finish in class and i was way too lazy to actually put effort into it at home, so my english teacher better take that or nothing

this is not at all my writing style but i was forced to branch out a bit with this. so here you go english teacher

It was a normal, sunny day in Chicago. All the plans for the day were playing out accordingly. I hummed to the soft tone of the music playing outside, a result of the party my close-by neighbors had been throwing. I would have joined them in their gathering, but I had plans of my own. My mother was visiting very soon, and I was preparing a special dish. Rice, chicken, corn on the cob. A custom for my visitors to eat the well-prepared dishes they had waiting for them.

After a moment, I began to faintly smell smoke. I originally thought I had burnt my dish, though there was no smoke coming from the food. I started worrying about what the smell could potentially mean. I left my semi-cooked dish unattended as I peeked out of my small home, wondering if the smell was coming from outside. I was shocked at what I saw, not a fire or flames, but many children and adults alike running the opposite direction from the very house that had just radiated the music and celebration.

Confused, I slowly migrated closer to the ruckus, attempting to figure out the reason for the commotion and smoke alike. I saw a small sliver of red-orange flames, coming from behind my close-by neighbor's home. I had forgotten who was living in that home, which was not very convenient for the situation I was currently in. All my questions were suddenly answered when I heard the faint sound of a familiar voice, screeching, "FIRE! FIRE! FIRE!" as loud as their lungs would allow.

My heart suddenly sank into my stomach as I processed the fact that the entire neighborhood, and even more, could easily burn in a matter of hours. I began screaming, "FIRE!" repeatedly out of pure instinct, as I ran towards the house in an attempt to help others evacuate. My heart was racing as many others were running the opposite direction as me, some giving me looks as if I was on a suicide mission. They weren't exactly wrong, but the safety of others had overthrown all my other concerns.

A small boy could be seen a few feet away from the burning barn, which I had soon recognized as the O'learys', close friends of mine. "Mommy!!" he screamed repeatedly in a strangled cry, as tears ran down his already reddened face. "Mommy! Daddy!!" I heard even clearer as I ran in a sprint towards the confused boy, startling him. "Have you seen my mommy??" he immediately began to ask me. I had recognized the boy faintly, but was unaware of the identity of his parents. "Come with me," I screamed over the sounds of chaos in the background, holding my hand out for him to take. "I'll help you find your mother!"

He stared at my outstretched hand for a moment, and then up at my eyes, blinking a few times before putting his hand into mine. "Okay!" he replied, his facial expression receding into a faint, relieved looking smile. I tightened my grip on the boy's hand, as I began to run faster than I had before, determined to get this poor little boy to safety as fast as I could. I found myself following the crowd, which had helped me immensely since they were all seeking the same thing as I had been.

I found everyone huddling toward the last house in the neighborhood, the owner and his wife, and two children, worriedly standing outside as many people rushed inside their home. "Go inside the house!" I screamed to the boy who had currently been clutching my hand tightly. "You'll be safe there, and you'll find your mother soon!" He only frowned at me, and let go of my hand disappointingly. "Thank you for your help.." he mumbled, making his way towards the house. I smiled as he ran through the door.

I almost felt bad for leaving the boy, but after things had calmed down and most of the neighborhood had found safety, I liked to imagine him with his mother by his side, comforting him and soothing the thoughts he must have had from the horrible things he had experienced. I'm not in the neighborhood, for my own safety, but that also means I'm not with any of my belongings. I just hope that me and my neighbors alike can return to our everyday lives before this horrible incident occurred, and that the damage to the only town I've known my entire life doesn't get worse than it already is.
