[PRESENT DAY]

THE BEEPING NOISE that went off every morning at approximately 6:30am was the thing that Madeline hated the most these days. She groaned at the sound of it as she slammed her hand down on the off button so that she could get ready for work in peace.

When she arrived into the kitchen she saw Alexa already up and making breakfast, that was unusual for her as she didn't even have a job to be ready for at this time. Alexa placed a plate of toast in-front of Madeline and smiled at her before turning her back and going back to making her own food.

Madeline had been working at a local cafe for the past few months after the everyone returned from the blip and would help out people who were struggling during this time. She had never been late or called in sick, hoping to get more hours to pay for her rent and earn some extra cash to spend on herself.

"Probably be home a little later today, stopping by the bookstore after work." Madeline information as she grabbed her keys and bag before heading out the door.

"Okay i'll see you then, also will you grab some milk from the store? we're nearly out." Alexa shouted out.

"Yep will do, bye!" She said, closing the door and making her way down the stairs of the apartment and out over to her car. It didn't take her long to get down to the cafe but she found driving there was easier and faster than walking.

As she arrived to the cafe she could see that it was busier than usual, which lucky for Madeline meant she could probably get a few extra tips from today's shift. Opening the door and walking in she was greeted by the other waitresses and made her way in the back room to put her things away and start the day.

"Morning Hart" one of the chefs said as Madeline made her presence known.

"Morning Jimmy, how're the kids doing?" she asked, taking two of the dishes that were ready to be served out of Jimmy's hand.

"They're doing good Hart, those are ready for table 6 and then there is a customer waiting at table 12" He said, giving her a large smile and getting back to cooking.

She made her way over to serve the customers waiting on the food, giving them both smiles as she handed them their plates before heading over to table 12.

When she got over there she noticed that it was a dark haired man, short scruffy hair and stubble on his face, someone who looked very familiar to her but Madeline payed no notice as she handed him a menu.

"Hi there, I'm Madeline and i'll be serving you this morning. Is there any drinks that i can start you of with?" She asked.

The man replied with a deep voice and only ordering a coffee but not returning the eye contact with her.

"Alright so just a coffee, can i get you any food with that?"

"uhh no thanks, just the coffee." he said, but this time he looked straight at Madeline and for her it was like she had seen a ghost.

She stood in front of him, not breaking the contact they were both sharing. She couldn't quite believe what she was seeing, after all she had thought he died years ago. It was him, she had to believe it was him, but why did he look so different and why isn't he remembering her.

From his point of view he had no idea who she was, the waitress that was serving him a second ago had froze and really it made him feel a little embarrassed. He didn't know what to do, should he call out to someone or try and talk to the girl but that only thing that came to mind in that second was to shake her out of it.

"Hey miss, you okay?" he said, his hands on her shoulder and giving her a few nudges but it seemed to do the trick.

"what? oh right, sorry." She said looking down and trying to sort herself out. "Sorry you just look like someone i knew along time ago." she laughed.

"Well i can't say that i get that a lot." He chucked, earning another small laugh from the girl.

The man took out his wallet and took out a 20 dollar bill. "Hey actually i'll take that coffee to go if you don't mind, i'm already running kind of late." he said.

"Oh yeah sure i'll go get that sorted for you, also this is a 20 which is way too much."

"ahh keep it, take it as my way of apologising for giving you a scare." he chuckled.

She took the note and heading off to the counter, and he followed, watching her make him a coffee and giving her a smile every now and again.

"Sorry for the wait, here." she said, hanging him his coffee.

"Thanks, I'm Bucky by the way." He said, smiling at her and he shook her hand.

"Madeline but my friends call my Maddy."

"Maddy, that's a pretty name. I'll see you around then i hope."

"Yeah see you around Bucky." she said, smiling and waving at him as he left the cafe.

Madeline spent the rest of her shift serving and cleaning tables, before heading over to the bookstore to pick up a new book and grabbing some milk on they way. She still couldn't quite believe how much that man looked like James and she did really hope that it was him but maybe that was her sign to move on and forget about him.

As Bucky headed over to his counselling appointment, his head brought him back to her and how she did look very familiar to him but he couldn't quite put his finger on where he knew her from. Until it hit him, it was her, the girl he promised long ago that he would find his way back too, the girl he used to knew, the girl who saved him.

So while Bucky started his search for her, Madeline came to the decision to end her search for him. But maybe that's why they were going to meet in the middle.
