Darkness.
That was all she could see running through the rain.
She was so foolish. She was so weak. And now everyone knew.
Everyone had seen how little control she had now.
The pounding of rain around her hit her skin like rocks, her body growing cold yet still on fire from the anger and the sadness. She powered through the pain and the cold as the giant trees passed her by like ships in the night. She needed to run as far away as possible, needed to run into the wilds of the night and never return. Only then would everyone be safe.... from Peren....from herself.
It was the only way to make it all just stop....
She slowed herself finally when her legs threatened to collapse, the dress clinging to her skin making her shiver violently in the continuing rain. Night was now in full bloom, but the storm itself covered up the darkness with the summer rains. Hazy mist covered the ground from the cool rainfall on the hot ground, Olly's feet now bare from losing her shoes as she had run through the night, her feet muddied and caked. She crossed her arms in front of her, her chest feeling like a weight was attached to her every breath.
"I can't do this anymore" she thought to herself, her feet moving forward without any sense of where she was, aimlessly taking in the world around her as her own collapsed "I can't ever go back to that life now..."
She thought about all the hope she had put into her leaving the first time. She had thought that if she went off into the world with Peren, she could make a name for herself, not just a daughter of the great Duer's. She would admit she wanted her own name in people's mouths, not just an extension of others. She thought Peren would help her achieve greatness, that his love would help guide her to do wonders, that he would guide her to truly be a hero. How foolish it all seemed, like a colorful, childish dream. She was just a kid when she left, and now that the world and her heart had been jaded, everything looked gray. She hated all the things she had once cherished, even the night sky itself....
She had messed up so badly.
And there was no going back now. She couldn't control her power, couldn't control her life....
"I can't even love someone right" Olly felt the sting of tears again on her cheeks, making them raw and painful as she thought of how desperately she wanted to love.
Her feet suddenly hit something different than the wet stone and grass, the white familiar stone glistening like a crystal path. Olly's eyes trailed up to the structure before her, the rain hitting the stone in a meditative sound that drowned out her thoughts.
"The Moonbridge...."Olly said more to herself, the long archway up feeling like she was going to a different plane of existence as it glowed without moonlight in the darkness.
