tw for death, fighting, and implied bad thoughts.

I decided to write angst.

"Baby, you and I"

"We were born to die."

You could remember when you first met Hunter.

He was a cocky brat, sure, but he was charming.

"You're finally awake." Your eyes opened to what seemed to be a cloudy day, with someone in a golden mask leaning over you.

It took you a minute to remember what was going on. Oh yeah, the Selkidomus Hunt, you going after King. Sitting up, you looked around for anyone you recognized.

"What's your name, witch?" He asked, moving around you so that you could face him.

"Uh.. Y/n L/n."

You knew who he was now. The Golden Guard, Emperor Belos's right hand man.

"Y/n L/n, huh? What a beautiful name."

You remembered the awkwardness of you asking him out once you'd gotten close to him, the dates, him revealing his name and face, all the cute moments you had shared with Hunter.

Yet, your mind didn't dwell on these memories for too long.
Instead, your mind went over every fight, notably the final one.

"Hunter—"

"Why are you trying to stop me?" He snarled angrily. "That's all you do, Y/n. You get in the way."

His words hurt you, but they also pissed you off.

"I'm trying to help you!"

"By destroying my relationship with my uncle?!" He sounded furious. "He saved me—! He cares—"

"HE'S GOING TO KILL YOU, BRAT!" You yelled, which made Hunter flinch a little.

You noticed that. "Oh my Titan, Hunter, I didn't—"

"Save it." He hissed.

"I'm so—"

"Save. It." He walked to the door. "I don't need you to babysit me. I'm sixteen, I can take care of myself and I don't need you, Y/n."

He walked out and slammed the door on you.

You looked up at the stone statue, a terrified face written all over the face.

It was the remains of your boyfriend, who was found out of betraying the coven.

He had cupped Lil' Rascal protectively in his hands, the bird having it's eye shut, scared.

You remembered the petrification.

You remembered how his screams filled all of Bonesborough, the tears that had ran down his face.

It was all your fault.

It was you who had convinced him to start sharing information with wild witches. It was you who helped teach him things about wild magic. All these things started by you is what got him petrified.

You looked down to read the inscription on the statue.

"This is what happens to traitors."

The one thing of his that you managed to save was his mask, and now in his honor, you were going to wear it while leading a seize of the castle, hoping it would end in failure so that maybe you could join him.

Tears rolled down your face as you let out a simple phrase.

"I'm sorry, Hunter. It was my fault."

And maybe, if you listened hard enough, you would've heard a whisper in the soft winds, a reply;

"I forgive you."
