Staring the boy down in the falling rain, drenched to the bone, you couldn't help but wonder what went wrong.
His maroon, guilty eyes averted yours, his bloodstained hands shook.
"Hunter—"
"I didn't know!" The outburst he had held in was let out. "It was a deal and knowing everything was too much."
"I just—"
The grimwalker cut you off again. "If you were given the choice to lose everything or go back to a home that doesn't want you, where would you go? Y/n, where would you go..? Nowhere. You and I are one in the same, so let me accept my fate."
"And what if," You spoke monotonous, your eyes showing the pain you felt. "What if your plan of 'self-sacrifice' failed? Us, still stuck in the human realm without you. And probably in prison."
"I didn't think..—"
"You never think before you do!" Hunter, please, you're no longer the golden guard. Let me— let us help you." You looked into his eyes again. "No one here wants to lose you. Hunter, you mean a lot to everyone. You mean a lot to me."
He looked shocked, to stay the least. Extending your hand, you suddenly looked determined.
"Hunter," You started. "Let's go regroup with the others, we'll find other ways back into the Boiling Isles. I promise."
A tear fell from his eyes. "Promise?"

You did not make well on your promise, Hunter was reminded. He looked at your grave, no closer to finding an answer.
