"You look like you're having a bad day."

The brilliant shape of the man was obscured by the dark of the night. You thought for a moment to configure an appropriate response. The swirl of emotions and catastrophe clogged your thinking.

"You could say that again.." you decide on. He extends his hand to help you off the concrete. "How could you tell?"

"I like to lay on my stomach outside when I'm feeling down too." Even in the dark, you could hear him smile at the end of his sentence. And what an infectious smile it was. You could feel the corners of your mouth extending, as if reflexively. A pleasant warmth began to sprout in the root of your heart.

Seldom did anyone, let alone a man, ever take notice of your struggle. The electric feeling that this act of kindness sparked ran through you, almost everlastingly. It was a current of love that you did not want to end. And you were ready to submit yourself to whoever this man was.

"Well.. As fun of a couples' activity that would be, it's a bit late out for that." You say, somewhat resentful at the fact that it was only hypothetical.

"Then let's go for a walk instead." He strides ahead immediately, almost as if he did it so that you would not have a chance to decline his offer. You jog quickly towards him at the streetlight to match his pace. But as the shadows disappear in his illumination, so too does your desire for the stranger's intimacy.
