Samantha Nolin:
SIGNIFICANCE OF CHARACTER's NAMES:
Sebastian Standish:
Character References/ The Building Blocks:
-(The Legend of Saint Sebastian) https://www.britannica.com/biography/Saint-Sebastian
Name Meaning:
The name Sebastian is of greek origin, and I chose it because it means (Vulnerable) which pertains to Sebastian's struggle with becoming a Rogue Demon.Jude Grail:
Character References/ The Building Blocks:
- Jude's character and personality were inspired by Jude Heartfilia in the early days of the Fairy Tail anime/manga
https://fairytail.fandom.com/wiki/Jude_Heartfilia- Jude's negative traits and unstableness were inspired by Emma Clayton's book, The Roar. The antagonist, Mal Gorman, is one of my all time favourite villains.
Name Meaning:
Jude is a name derived from Greek origin, and means 'Praised,' of course this was quite fitting for my villain as this was his main motive and drive which lead his actions to unfold.
The last name, Grail, is of English origin and means 'to be desired' or 'one who is to be desires' and other variations. I also referenced the fact that grail can also mean chalice, cup, or plate, which I felt pertained to how the citizens of Asherwood metaphorically 'drank the lies he told them.' And followed him blindly.Lok Magnus:
Character References/ Building Blocks:
There weren't any references or characters who inspired Lok. Four years ago, when I was writing the outline, I came up with Lok Magnus as a way to symbolize a changed point of view in a single minded city (Asherwood) and so I began developing him more. In draft two, Lok was less devastated by his actions, and I felt that draft three, he needed to really show he had morals.Name Meaning:
The name Lok is of Chinese origin and means most commonly 'Joy, or, Happiness' which may not seem applicable to him character traits, but in actuality, the intent was that his revolutionary ideals lead him to freedom. Joy does not mean he feels joy, but means that he can find it and or because he is free he can feel joy now. His name foreshadows his change in perspective, his flee from Asherwood, and the conclusion on the story.Trinity Augustine:
Character References/ Building Blocks:-The biggest inspiration for Trinity was Maka Albarn from the Soul Eater anime/manga... And no, it's not because she's blond and has a death scythe, it was the fact that she wants to become a meister at Death Weapon Meister Academy, like her mother. Trinity, like Maka to her mother, has a strong attachment to her father and is inspired by his achievements and status in society. She wants to be a strong leader like he was one day. Maka is also seen to be able to be skilled in combat and particularly good at coming up with solutions on the spot to save her friends. Trinity is much the same, especially in the scene where her and Xander are face to face with Sebastian's Rogue form.

Character References/ Building Blocks:
In the early stages of this book, Xander was actually an antagonist/antihero. His father sent him to prison, to keep him out of the way of his plans, to which Xander broke out and recruited all the prison inmates to become his soldiers. He ran an organization in his grandfather's old tavern called (The Tavern of Souls) and there was an entire subplot about his relationship with the Chimera, Snake Averous. After revising the story, I took out that entire thing, but I just couldn't let go of Snake, and so he became Victor's lab rat/ apprentice. My friend also begged me to keep him 😂
- The inspiration for Xander was Shinji Matou from the anime/manga Fate Stay Night. I was watching Fate Stay Night one day, and saw Shinji. I hopped on over to FantomWiki, and immediately found my inspiration for Xander:
"Shinji is arrogant and impulsive. Initially he considered himself to be special when he discovered the Matou were a clan of magi and began putting all of his heart and effort into becoming one himself, only to later find they were a fallen clan who no longer had magical power."
and: "Basically, he's the kind of person that's reliable when he's on your side but ends up being really troublesome if he turns on you." This was the thing that got me the most, the wording is truly wonderful.
